Drum to PBR Disc Conversion

Hello to all!

New guy here and hello from Youngstown, New York!

It'a time for brake upgrades on my 1992 Convertible RS. Of course, 1LE.

I was looking for Andy's kit I had seen here, but can't find his website.

I'm sure I'll need the instructions too, as I'm thinking I have to cut the wheel cylinder bracket off.

Shim the rotors. Etc.....

Again, it's nice to be here.
I'll post pics of my car soon

Neal

Andy is "gone", for a long time as far as I know. Lon over at TDS sells his door hinges, as far as I know and Ed at Flynbye sells the brackets you're looking for. Ed is not very good with the communication though if you do order from him.

Thanks Scooter!

I think Ithink go with the fourth generation brakes on all 4 corners!

Seems to be much better.

Re: Drum to PBR Disc Conversion

The typical PBR conversion isn't really worth doing anymore. The parts support for the rear disc assemblies has gone away. Even after obtaining the conversion adapters, you've got to find the calipers and related e-brake hardware. The 89-92 calipers aren't readily available anymore, 93-97 calipers don't look like they're too far behind. The E-brake hardware (brackets, return springs, etc) aren't available anymore and can be hard to find.

Flynbye still sells a kit with the conversion parts (last I checked). I bought one a few years ago, it showed up missing a few parts and Ed never replied to my email about the missing parts. I didn't push the issue because I had a few of those bits already in my parts stash, but it illustrates that the service/support after the sale is lacking.

93-up brakes are probably a better idea. I'd probably work with whatever I could find in a junkyard or from a donor car. Or order a complete kit from the source of your choice. Piecing anything together, or replacing damaged parts could prove to be difficult.

Thanks Drew!

My car is pristine, and its only fair to treat it right. I'm going to go with the LS brake conversion as that's by far superior to how it sits today.

Plus, it will look a whole lot better.

I've been lining up the parts I need. So far, it's not too bad.
