Re: 9-bolt 1le swap

Hello,

Currently, I've got a 10-bolt drum brake setup on my car. I've been offered a full posi 9-bolt setup with 1le discs for $350 Canadian. What's involved in making the conversion? I'm planning on picking up a set of used 3.42's off of 9bolt.com, but what's involved in the brake conversion? I've been told by some that the only thing I'll have to change is e-brake cables, but other people have said proportioning valve, etc. will have to go, too. Help please!

Yeah, search a little...I've covered it 100 times in my posts....BUT, to help a member, here's #101:

This is for your '86, stock disc/drum, right?

OK. You'll need the correct e-brake cables for those brakes,('90-92 disc/perf pkg), and a xxxx9496 prop valve. You will be OK with your J50 (disc/drum) master as those were used on all cars '89-up, regardless of what brakes they had on them. I also listed the "1LE" prop valve. You should be OK with installing this one and that's what the rear PBRs use. Other than that, you're all set...the rear is a bolt on. You mentioned 3.42s...you sure you don't want 3.45s for the 9 bolt?

Just checking...Ed

PS: Check my posts as I've listed all the props and master cyl part numbers on the boards before.

Thanks very much, and apologies to all. I DID do a search, but was looking in all of the wrong places. I think that I was looking a bit too narrowly and missed all of the most basic and extensive 1le posts. My fault, sorry. I did find them, not 10 minutes after Parrydise's intial response.

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to nine-bolts, as you can see, so I appreciate even your minor correction, ed(?).

Much obliged too all of the folks at TGO,

Rob

No problem, man. I just don't like to type all those numbers all over again.

I'll be working on a 9 bolt-style PBR swap in the future and will post the results.
