Gear Shift Cable Conundrum or maybe more?

Long story short I decided to rebuild my transmission, but as I was installing the 700r4 back under the GTA I ran into a problem. Which was kind of a problem when I installed the tranny in the first time, the gear shift cable had a problem reaching the gear shift lever coming out of the tranny. Moving onto the second installation, Now the gear shift cable is about an inch too short. Am I going crazy? Or did I overlook something simple. I did try mounting the gear shift cable bracket (the one that mounts to the pan) a bolt closer to the front on the car but that made it not possible to hook up either. I can believe mucking up the cable and stretching it but going shorter? I had both the transmission and the gear selector in park. I even flipped the gear lever's shaft to see if it would bring it further back. From what I was able to find out from the searh option is that the cable is not adjustable. So... Any help?

P.S this is my first post with an image attached. If I somehow did something wrong, mods please let me know and I will fix it.

The bracket for the cable seems to not be bent out of place. If I do place the bracket another bolt forward, I cannot shift into drive, overdrive, second, or first. If it is where it was originally at, it will not reach the The transmission crossmember is installed so the transmission can't be sagging.

P.S can someone get a picture of their shift cable setup and lever for their 700r4? I want to see if there are any differences.

Stock shifter?
Yes the shifter will move throughout every position. Yes the stock shifter is equipped (everything under the center console seems to be in the right order). I was leaning to getting a replacement used shift cable, but I would like to rule out other possible causes and knowing why the cable needs to be replaced if it is the cause.

Re: Gear Shift Cable Conundrum or maybe more?

I think I found a possible fix! A thread post from Token named: Shift Cable Adjustment? Post #34 from user Street Lethal in where he describes the shifter shifting forward from normal use and to just tap on it with a rubber mallet until it pops back into its normal position. I am definitely going to give this a try, but I am kind of confused from his explanation. He describes it as shifting forward, but from what I have observed, the shaft is keyed to the rooster comb from the inside (which is held in place with that spring steel w/ the roller) and keyed to the shift lever on the outside, so how can it possibly shift forward? If someone understands the method to his madness or has tried it with success can you please explain to me this witchcraft. I am definitely going to try it as well as message him to explain it to me just for the sake of understanding how that happens though. Also, thank you for your guys' moral support, I appreciates it.
