Just wanted to let everyone know there is a craigslist scammer "selling" Thirdgens right now. These same craigslist ads are all over the country right now. I am looking for another thirdgen right now so i replied to 2 different cars and received the same email minus the name change. It really pisses me off because he is posing as a military member and as one myself, it is personally insulting. Here is one of his emails. I sent one backAsking for his name rank and unit, and he replied with a name and rank but when I asked him again for his unit and for him to email me from his .mil email addy he stopped responding.

I have seen a similar response on a white IROC in the Washington DC area. Very strange.

 

Yeah I saw that add, it is the same 87 white iroc He responded to me about, same pics and all.

 

Just by reading that email I'd say it's one of those nigerian scamming pos's. Poorly worded, missing words. etc.

 

he is doing it on more then thirdgens. I got the same email. Ident. about a 1995 6 spd Z28 in the Atlanta area.

 

I figured everyone knew about these scams so I wasn't going to post anyhting but a freind of mine said he had never heard of such a scam so I decided to get the word out just in case.

 

just goes to show why you should do everything in person. and is it me or does 3rd gen scams seem to be picking up in numbers?

Funny thing is. I am currently in Iraq. I've not seen a fob without a phone center yet. Also have never heard of US Air Military Cargo. Guy is a complete tool.

Those ads REEK of Nigerian scammer.

Too bad they have gotten "smart" & are preying on people, by posing as our military.

And yeah....Phones are everywhere for the military. To say this guy is full of *****, is giving him too much credit.

 

There is Military Air Cargo, but it is for.....Military Cargo. It would be awfully hard to get a camaro through the JI Inspection and on a C-17, KC-135, etc without any one noticing, they look a little different the Humvees and bobtails

 

That's what camo paint is for, right? Nobody will even notice it is on the truck!

 

About the truck ? It has a clean title, I'm the first owner, it doesn't have any scratches, dents, it never been involved in an accident or in a flood.
It has only 133,217 miles so the truck it's like new. Right now I'm living in Holliston, Massachusetts. If are you wondering how the shipping will be made, i have to tell you,

this reminds me of when i was going to purchase my 1st car. i saved for a 3rd gen and found one relatively close. it was a red 89 iroc with a 350. bought it on ebay, the guy wanted a deposit, we said no since he didnt have paypal, he wanted us to western union it to him. so we told him that we could pick it up the next day. we drove to the address and found it to be a church...called the guy and he said he'd be there in a few. called about 5min later and he said "actually i sold it". so that little incident made me rather mad.

a couple weeks later we bid on another iroc, an 86 with a 305. we won the bid but didnt meet his reserve bid. i guess it was close enough though because he offered it to us at just over the bid we had in. so thats how i ended up at my camaro actually. im 17 and lovin it lol. but i still wish i had that 350...

 

Another one to watch for is if you sell a car they'll buy it from you and send you a cashiers check for more then the amount and ask you to ship the car and give the extra back. Works fine for you until the bank realizes a week later that the check is fake. Friend of mine got screwed like that a little over a year ago.

 

Ebay only does their services with Ebay customers and products. Ebay does not have special services for the general public. They do not have special services for any reason besides Ebay.com. There are scammers out there that try to say Ebay will hold certain amounts of money until the vehicle is delivered and that Ebay can guarantee your money is safe. The vehicle will not be delivered and the money that you sent through moneygram is gone. All I have to do to trip them up is ask if the car is numbers matching, what the tire width, height, rim size, what type of transmission (I.E. 700r4 4l60e) it is, and what type of engine (5.7 l98, 6.0 ls2) it is. For the camaro enthusiast: it is very easy for us to be able to trick these people up because they do not know the specifics about cars. I ask about prom. I have never heard a scammer know what the hell that is. They give very vague answers. If the owner says she is a lady and does not know much about the car, look at the pictures. I am not sexist or anything, but most ladies do not know how to take really good pictures of multiple car angle shots including hood up, an trunk area open. Always ask for a phone number and say you will pick up the car. If they say they cannot talk on the phone because they are too busy, that's bs. Then they will say they will deliver the car for free. Insist on you coming to get the car with cash in hand. After that they always stop sending emails. Craigslist.com has a link on its site to show what scammers new methods are. This is how I found out. Almost the hard way. Be safe.

 

I think this message has done good and can now be closed. As buyers, really, we all should be weary of scams.
