WTB: 88-92 Camaro

Hello,

I'm looking to purchase a 3rd gen 88-92 Camaro. Brother owned a '92 White 25th anniversary which he lost (impounded) and always wanted to own one myself.
-Trim is not a concern.
-Ttops.
-Must be in good running condition.
-Located in Illinois but will travel for the right one.

Please let me know what you have, price and location.

Thanks.

Look in the Chicago area craigslist. I lived there for a few years and there was always a good amount of thirdgen parts and cars. Word of advice, forget about the 91 and 92 and just buy an IROC with T-tops and TPI intake. It's my belief that the IROCs will be worth more than the 91/92 Z28s simply because they say IROC on the doors. For whatever reason, IROC really means something to people wanting to buy a thirdgen.

Thanks for the input! Appreciated.

I have search in craigslist and found couple but most are not ttop. Don't know much about 3rd gens right now other than really wanted one since my teens. I will be looking out for IROCS and TPI. Anything else I should look out for? I know the ins and outs with cars so inspection should be of no issue.

Thanks again.

As far as thirdgen specific stuff, since you will be looking at midwest cars you will have to put it up on jackstands or a lift and inspect the underside, wheel wells and body seams. Unless you are experienced with a welder and bodywork any car that has rust inside a body seam should be an immediate deal breaker. Make sure the doors don't scrape the bottom or sides of the opening.

Thanks for all the info. IROCS are pricier than z28's but for a reason I assume.

If I choose to go RS or Z28, anything special to look for other than what has been said?

Watch the rockers, they rot from leaning ttops. Also take the tops off and look around for holes around the seals. Just look around the bottom. Check the rear quarter seems as the hatch can also leak and rot behind the plastics in trunk. Just take your time looking, you don't have to buy the first one you see either.

Re: WTB: 88-92 Camaro

Thank you guys for all the input, appreciated.

Need your advice; found an '85 Iroc-z 305 5.0 TPI (confirmed to be iroc z via the SPID sticker, B4Z code). Seller is looking for $6.5K.

Now, seller has mentioned original engine was recently overhauled entirely. Trans in working order and no rust, undercarriage is clean. Looks very clean inside and out. I attached couple pics.

Car is more than couple hundred miles away, do you guys think I should go for it? Of course, will inspect at site. Im capable of doing the inspection myself but wondering if anything in particular that needs attention with this model/gen? Price at should stick with?

Re: WTB: 88-92 Camaro

I thought 86 was when they started the serpentine belt and one piece rear main seal. I think 85 was the first year for TPI and I seem to remember it having some parts or issues the 86 and up did not, I may be wrong though. I would find out about the serpentine and one piece rear main. Seems OK at a glance.

I know 85 was first with TPI. 86 and up got the one piece RMS dont know about the belt. Do these 2 pieces affect performance or ??

Found another more locally but they are asking for $7K, '87 Iroc z 5.7 TPI blue/black combo. Also rebuilt engine with 39K on it.

And Im contacting another member here for the 90 irocz located in VA.

Re: WTB: 88-92 Camaro

I live in Chicago and I am planning to sell my 88 IROC-Z Convertible in the spring. Moving away in the fall of 2018 and just can't keep her. She is a beauty! Almost everything in it is new. I tell folks the only thing left original is the rear end and the drive shaft. :-) Body on the car has over 100,000, but I put a new engine in it back in '05. Have to look it up, but not turned too many miles on it. Aside from the engine, New tires, brakes, interior and radio to name a few. Just replaced the A/C on it, too. Feel free to hit me up if there is any interest.
