First post, hello everyone!
I am from Montreal
Long story short, November 2021, I inherited my father's car. I was 10 when he purchased it new. The image you see below is how I saw this car for the past 20 years or so. My father was 83, it is about 20 years now he lost interest, he took it out once or twice a summer, question of using the gas and put some fresh, other than that the car saw the garage darkness most of his life. Look at that dust!
Some technicalities:
1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM 56650 km (35200 miles) Black lacquer with gold bottom and gold birds
5.0L LG4 - 165hp - 245 lbf⋅ft
Five speed manual transmission
WS6, DX6, D81, NP5, Lear Seagler seating, UQ7, UT4… and many more options.
The only option the car never had is the AC. Thus, fully loaded minus AC. Perfect!
The image below is from 1985, when the car was hardly a few months old and I was 10. lol
I registered here as I will be roaming around, as I have before as a guest, interesting info.
For a few days maybe a week or so I will not be able to take photos of the car in full, I need to change the belts before I back it up and take it out. Last Saturday I took videos to show my children at home how bad the squealing belts are…, so, I took portion of those clips for a quick glance.
Here's the video (Youtube)
Thanks!
I like it as well when I see these types of posts around the net… but, in my case, at the cost of my father not being with us anymore.
I would have preferred he lived and kept his car. After all, I already have a classic 5.0L, a 1991 500SL, hence my surname of Double-Five.
I have noticed you have a five speed as well, nice! The LG4 is tangible when matted to a manual transmission.
Welcome!! Very beautiful car!! Love the hood bird on a black and gold TA. And huge respect to your dad for buying, and keeping this car all these years. Thats a car that should stay with you till your in your 80's to honor him as well.
Much respect sir!
I took care of the squeaking belts, washed it and took it out for a spin. Here is two pictures I took last Saturday.
Here is the bill of sale with some option codes (French descriptions). Mistake? It is written "Auto" for the transmission...it's manual. The date of purchase was on a Tuesday, that Friday we brought it home and the picture posted earlier with me inside the car, that was Friday, May 31, 1985. Thus, the two images with the same viewpoint are 37 years apart.
Yes he traded a 1980 Trans Am.
My father said the 1980 Trans Am with 4.9L was the worst car he ever owned. I still have the distribution system of that 1980 Trans Am, my father modified it to bypass the electronics to make it reliable.
I am sure these stickers are around here somewhere, but never hurts to have them again just in case, it's Canadian specs after all.
