tweeter pod or any other speaker for that fact
i just started brainstorming about my car since it is in pieces. if anyone is good with fiberglass this sounds pretty kick *** to me. u know the rear portion of the healiner where the plastic piec covers the edge along the hatch. how about forming a triangular shape to hold a couple tweeters or something. maybe even the same but with two little triangles in the corner of that piece where it starts to connect to the sides. sounds cool to me and i wish i knew what i was doin with fiberglass cuz it sounds like a very good idea to me. the jeeps have a speaker thinger like this for their roll bar. hope i described it well enough
High freguencies should only come from in front of you, but the idea of fabrication using fiberglass is a good one, not hard to do just a little messy. Lots of good web sites for this kind of work, in fact I am starting a major fiberglass project on a boat I recently bought, have done other fiberglass work as you decribed, but this is the first "life depends on it" structural project.

for us SQ guys, yes, high frequencies should only come from the front as stated. so some of us would find it kinda unimportant. however, that is a good idea if you are more for just having the sound all around you. it doesnt sound too hard. make a mold of the plastic piece, make some small wood (mdf is best) rings to fit the tweeters in, angle them, and then go at it like you would a set of kickpanels.
