5 1/4's instead of 6x9's

hey guys i was thinkin about gettin some Infinity Kappa 51.1i 5 1/4 rounds to put in place of my 6x9's witch arn't so great. so u think they will sound alot better? also will they have any bass cause my 6x9's have liek zero bass and u can barely hear words when my subs are on. i have a switch to my amp so i don't have to have my subs on all the time so i wunt to have really clear sound. oh yea the spec on these speakers are

IMQ poly woofer with rubber surround
ceramic composite tweeter
frequency response 59-20,000 Hz
recommended power range 8-50 watts RMS
peak power handling 100 watts
sensitivity 89 dB
depth 2-3/8"
3-year warranty
oh yea and there liek 100 bucks. also i was gonna get some infinity 4x6 plates for up front later on. i am runnin all this off a Aiwa 45wx4 head unit. not the best but i am not rich. thanks

well a 6x9 has more cone area then a 5¼, so it can move more air, what i would do instead of getting 5¼'s is to get a nice pair of 6x9s, and build a fiberglass enclosure in the sail panel area, you should get great bass response from them, also try building kick pods for those 5¼'s, and if u can put an amp on them and those 6x9s

well i am not into building anything out of fibergalss i just wunted to spend about 150 and get some good sound.i was just gonnae use some plywood and cut a hole for a roud speaker then fill the back with polyfill. does anyone know if a 6 1/2 will fit? thanks and does anyone recomend some good speakers that scream? i wunt the loudest and clearest highs i can get for under 150. i need to be able to hear words with my subs on, also i would liek them to have some good bass that does not break up and get fuzzy like my 6x9's do. thanks

dude its stupid to want to hear muzik from behind u, invest in DJs kicks and a pair of speaks, and throw a cheap amp on them, u will be happy guarenteed, i mean i have high end Alpine 6x9s but they are almost too loud and it doesnt sound that great unless u have nice fronts, which i do so.....try what u think is best, and yes a 6½will fit

I have a convertible which came standard with 5 1/4 instead of 6x9. If you think you have no bass now, go ahead and put in the 5 1/4 and then you will really have no bass.

Get a good set of speakers and you should be fine. My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee has Infinity Gold 6x9's and 2 tweets (along with 6 1/2 in the back doors) and has great bass sound. Granted it won't "pound" but reproduces the bass to give you a well balanced sound.

what kind of 6x9 r u runnin? have u considered puttin like a 150 watt ampo on them? It will make a considerable difference
and be better than runnin good 6x9s off the head unit

i'm runnin old 200w sonys. before they had explodes. they were in a junk car i bought so i threw them in there. they get pretty distorted just from the headunit so i think an amp would be worse.i have my bass settings on 2 cause anythign more sounds bad. i'm not lookin to spend a million bucks here i just wunt sound. i am buildin a 350 right now and i still need about 400 bucks for the swap so at a 100 bucks a week then lkittle **** i buy its about 70. so i don't have much so wuts your suggestion? would a 61/2 be better?

the reason they are distorting when u turn them up is cuz u dont' have enuff power runnin 2 'em... my 6½ comp set did that on my RF Punch 100.2 amp... that was 25W RMS 50W Max... then i put my Jensen Competition ATS 300W amp... 50W RMS... 100W Max... and they sound A LOT better.... an amp is way better than ur headunit which is puttin out about 23W RMS
