stupid question

I have an 86 Z28 with a Sony Xplod CD player. After working great for a year it just stopped working a couple weeks ago. The display says it is playing but there is no sound, at all. ??? I checked all the wires in the back of the CD player, and the ones going through my amp, and they are all in snug. I was wondering if you guys knew if the fuses blew on these and that was the problem or something like that. Any suggestions? Thanks - Paul

If no fuses are blown, there's a good chance a wire is grounded somewhere. It could be a speaker wire, or I've actually seen remote turn on wires cause loss of sound output when they are grounded. Check the connections behind the deck, any place you ran wire that it could come in contact with metal or another wire, and then check the connections at the speakers. If all of these things look fine, use a continuity tester and check your wires to make sure there aren't any breaks/kinks in the wires. Also, when you say you have an amp, does that mean all of your speakers are amped, if so, you can disregard my "check the wires behind the deck" statement of course, but still check back there to see that the remote wire isn't grounded. Another easy thing to do before doing all of this is check the fuse(s) in your amp and in the power feed to the amp. Remember though, if the fuse blew, it blew for a reason. If a fuse did blow, and you change it and it blows again right away, something is grounded. Good luck.

Yeah I am not too happy with this CD player (before it went out, and of course after as well) and I was a lot happier with my $99 AIWA in my other Camaro, but I gotta get it playing again, I can't stand not having any music. Anyways hank you Eric's85TA, I will check it out tomorrow and hopefully I will be able to post some good news.
