Blew my cheap 4x6's! What is a decent brand to get??

I made the mistake and got some cheap speakers called Legacy. They looked pretty nice and they said they could handle up to 130 watts. I don't even listen to my stereo that loud and I blew them both. My cd deck is a sony xplode with 52x4 watts peak and I don't have an amp. Those speakers sounded worse than the stock speakers and I want some decent ones but not too expensive ones. What's the max wattage I should get for the 4x6's if I don't plan on amplifying them? I want more crisp sounding speakers. How are those plate speakers? You know the ones with the little 3 inch round speaker and the tweeter? (Sorry if some of this doesn't make sense but I don't know much about speakers) Are the plate speakers better than the regular 4x6's? Also, what's a good 6x9 to get? One that has good bass without amplifying? Thanks if anyone can help!

Like everyone else says, go listen to some speakers to see what you like. I have had both Kenwood 4x6 and Alpine 4x6 plates in my car and I like the plates the best. Just my opinion.

If you don't have a high pass filter, get one when you get your new speakers. Sending that low bass sound to the 4x6's will kill them quick, no matter the brand. My head unit has a HPF and I have mine cut at 125 -- my sub picks up the bass.

Listen to some and see what you like and buy what you can afford.

I have the Sony xplode CA860X. I am very satisfied with it. The only deck I like better than it is the jvc kameleons but they don't have a detachable face. See where I live people steal a lot!! So I needed a detachable face. Well anyways, how much do those bass filters cost? And what do they look like? Thanks a lot for the replys, I think I am going to get something name brand so I can have a warranty. I'm sure they will sound a hell of a lot better too!! LOL

bass filters AKA capacitors...

the guys who did my install on my 4th gen awhile ago put these small little capacitors inline with my speakers to the head unit.. they suck out the deep bass so they dont blow the speakers..

keep in mind you should only use these if there is no amplifier being used!!! you can get these little barrel shaped capacitors at any radio shack. or AL & ED's auto sound... you just splice them in anywhere in the speaker wires to the head unit and you are good to go. if i were you.. i would only use them on the 4x6's otherwise you wont get any bass at all from the 6x9's

what 6x9's are you using??

if you want a really good 4x6 and have some money.. get Kicker's competition series 225w 4x6's i have them in my tahoe.. very very awesome.. never crackle or rattle.

In short, just call them bass blockers.

I'm using Pioneers 4x6 on my transam, and they sound great IMO.

I have a set that I was going to use in my camaro, but I'm willing to sell them to get some $$ to buy a set of wheels.

I have the boxes, and they work perfect, its just that this guy offered me a set of wheels that I really like, and I'm a little short on $$ right now.

I will sell them cheap , Email me if you are interested.

You will need the bass blockers for the front ones, you can get them at any circuit city or best buy.

I've always been partial to Infinity's. Always sound good and are not too expensive. Personally I'd forget the 4x6's and go with some components. They sound so much better and can but put anywhere you want....
