you could have the speakers wired up wrong, but amps will run hot when pushed and it could be normal. most amps have a protection thing in them so if they get too hot, it will shut down before it hurts the amp. what do you have?

is it shutting itself off due to excessive heat? Or just hot to the touch? Some amps just run really hot....

Most amps get hot, how hot is real hot? Also, do you have your speakers wired for too low of an impedence?

give more info, and im pretty sure you'll get more than a vague answer, include details, like what speakers your using, how their wired (series, parralell), specs of the amp, etc............

It could be because Stereo doesnt have a strong pre out like 2 or 4 volts. The less power the Stereo preouts are the more your amp has to work.
