question about using CD-RW with Pioneer CD Player

Are most CD players compatible with CD-RW? I have a Pioneer DEH-7000R. It plays CD-R's, but i've never tried it with a CD-RW. The reason I want to use a CD-RW is because sometimes i download a song and I want to listen to it right away in my car, but I don't feel like burning a whole cd. Could i just put a couple songs on a CD-RW and then erase them later and add different songs? Would i still be able to play them in my car?

Unfortunately, most decks wont play CD-RWs. You can always try it and find out. My Sony ES and my friends Pioneer Premiere wont.

sorry to say but it doesn't look like it will...

however, all of their new DEH line supports CD-R and CD-RW - - not sure if you are looking to get a new deck, but that would be the way to go if you really wanted to play CD-RWs (I just ordered the 7400mp as a matter of fact)

The only bad thing that I have found with cd-rw is that you can only erase them and re-burn them twice, after that the songs don'y burn right and sound like they skip.

Thats due to the media type of your CD's and the type of cd player you have. Darker media is always better to me, and I believe brands like HP, Verbatim, and Memorex (ceramic ones) to be ideal. The 50 cds for $2.00 dealies that come in just plastic wrap with names like kyhpermedia and HI-Val are crap. Its too light for the laser to see it, and hence skips like crazy.

Easy way to see, get a good dark cd and a POS CD-R and hold the bottom up to your eye. You'll notice how much easier you can see through the cheap ones.

As far as playing CD-RW's, you might catch a break and get a cd player that will play them. I wouldnt make it the primary foundation for buying the cd player though. They are much more expensive than plain cd-r's. Don't like the songs on the CD-R anymore, throw the cd away and burn again.

I find that the Sony CDRs are very good. Now that 50 pack of HiVals I got, well they were free with the rebates and thats the only reason i got them. I must say that I was dissapointed with my new TDKs (they are now the silvers instead of the blues). What kind of burner are you using Mike?

The best one's I have used are by MAXELL CD-r (and CR-RW). I bought tem to use on my home stero cd burner, but when i got my computer and didnt need to use the home stereo one I had all my left over cd's. So i troed them in the computer and they worked. The back of them are a deep blue color. I f the back of the cd looks like a reg cd (yellow) dont use it. If I lokks blue or green give it a try

Well, I've never heard of the CD burner Mike. You might try a test: burn a CD at 1X speed and see if it plays any better in your car.

forget about using cd-rw's with some of the pioneer headunits, or most cd palyers for that matter. They dont seem to read the cd's probably because of the polymer that they use to make the data portion of the cd. I think the reflective foil layer is different too. I have never had any luck using cd-rw's with my poineer headunits. They refuse to read them. Some people seem to get them to work with the newer models but not me. The only thing that seems to like to play my cd-rws is my dvd player and my high end cd player.

nero burning rom seems to have better luck creating useable rws than adaptecs piece of crap.. true, a lot of things simply wont read rws no matter what, but if you have a good burner + good cds + good software, thats gonna be your best bet... my friend uses adaptec and i use nero, and all my cds play in both of our stuff, but his wont work on 4 or 5 different things.. same burner company, same package of cds..

Nero is good because you can overburn discs.

Dimented, you probably just need a newer Pioneer deck. For kicks, even though I'm not into that scene, I burned an MP3 disc onto an RW; it played fine on my Pioneer. My home rack system from '92 (Sony) is picky; sometimes it will play a burned CD fine, other times, it says no disc.

in the future i may get a newer one for my car. I put a fairly new one in my dads car for his b-day and i was surprised to find that it wouldnt play the rw's either. Im too buisy dumping money into my new engine so newer audio equipment has to take a back seat for now. But then again, the fact that cd-r's are cheap as dirt, i just use them and hell, if i get tired of the cd, i just toss it.

If it doesnt play it doesnt play. Not much you can do. Just get cd-Rs and write then at a slow speed or so. The only way to fix hard ware it to replace it with the goods.

I'm a burning CD Queen....

I find that the Diamond CDR's on ebay (100) for 24.95.....are very good. I burn tons of back up karaoke cd's which also have graphics, and work wonderful. Also, work great in any cd player so far. I also burn at the max 4 speed. May take a few minutes longer, but no skips, or problems.

I was once a believer that "cheaper is better. How much diff can there be?"

I bought 50 CD-Rs for about $15. They're the Imagation ones. I thought they were fine. Then outta curiousity (with about 40 of the others left) I bought a set of 5 Sony "Music" CD-Rs for ~$7. I burnt the exact same songs onto one of them, then did a side-by-side comparison in my car. OMG!!!! The Sony's sound about 100 times better. Better SQ, imaging, stronger bass, more acurate bass, and I don't have to turn up my stereo as loud.

I'm not saying the Sony's are the best. But the more expensive ones ARE worth it.

As far as the CD-RW problem goes, I'm confused on one part of it. My HU (JVC KD-LX10) won't play them, but the stock Delcrap in my (now gone) '95 Monte Carlo would. Explain that?
