Box???
Box???
I'm by no means an electrical know it all or sound know it all. To put a sub in your car... do you absolutely need a box to put it in? Or can you mount it directly?
Any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advance

if you get a subwoofer that's free-air capable, you dont technically need a box.. but you still do need to seal it off somehow.. you can't just leave it sitting in the well.. you'd need to make a plate to cover the back part of the well, or mount it in a side panel or something.. but its going to sound better regardless to just build a box

i agree. but free-air subs aren't the greatest subs in the world. they usually don't sound as good as subs in a box. so just check out the different boxes available for 3rd gens, that'll be your best bet.
8 in. subs use little boxes, and for my money hit just as hard. I don't need competition speakers and amps. Just enough that I know they're back there. I'm getting tired of my big box and my 12s.
