i just installed 2 6x9's and 2 4x6s and a old clarion deck....when its turned all the way up youo have to put your head up to the speaker to even hear anything at a whisper level...i bought the car without a radio and the previous owner cut the factory harness out ...i think i got everything wired right but its just pissin me off and im gettin impatient.....so i was wondering if any of you have a clue whats going on and what might be wrong

 

is the Deck a pre-amp only?

 

Sounds like you have the speakers wired wrong or something is up with the deck. Double check the speaker wiring. A quick test for speaker leads to find out which is which is to either pull out the old speakers and check the wire color and match it up behind the deck or take a AA battery and touch the + speaker lead to the + side and - to -. You will get a pop out of the speaker if you have the combo of leads.

 

with the AA thing you can also test to see if the wires are hooked up right. if you can see the woffer look to see if it goes up or down... if it goes up and stays up you have the right hook up if the woffer goes down then you have the wires the wrong way...

 

im kinda new to the whole car audio thing but i think it is a preamp...the deck is 35x4 but there isnt a seperate amp or anything

 

how many wires are there on the harness and how many sets of RCA's are there?

 

also on the harness that connects to the deck the speaker wires that have the black line on them even though on others ive seen thse marked as -'s on mine it has the copper wire and on the ones without the line it is the silver wire. is it possible ble that the deck is blown?, if so is there any way to test it?

 

i dont have any amp so no rcas but there are 12 wires on the harness

 

what year F-body and what deck do you have?

 

1983 camaro sport coupe.....the end of the original harness is not there...im using a clarion deck 35x4, 12 wires comming into the harness that goes into that deck...used butt connectors to connect the old wires and the new harness together...if ya need the model # i can check tomorrow...

 

If you tell me excatly how you have the speaker wires hooked up right now I will tell you if it is right. Tell me what color of wires from the deck go to what color wire in the car. If you want to go through the trouble that is.
