pricey boxes
I was just wonder why everyone sells their boxes for as much or more as the custom made boxes that you can get from a dealer?
Are they better? I'm looking for and am tryin to get the facts.

When comparing prices, make sure you're looking at the type of material and thickness used. Not just the flashy neon and plexiglass. All sub boxes should be made out of at leat 3/4" MDF. Stay away from pressboard or particle board. Also, make sure the boxes are screwed and not stapled together.

If you're buying a box that's truely a custom made hand-built box, it's going to cost a lot of money regardless of whether it's coming from a private individual or from a shop. Either way, the same amount of materials and labor is involved. The only stuff out there that's cheaper is the cookie-cutter premade stuff that tends to have a lower quality and a cheaper look. Unfortunately, in the case of pre-made boxes, you also don't get to have the box sized specifically for the requirements of your subs, so you make a comprimise of cost vs. sound quality unless you get lucky and have a set of subs that perform optimally in the airspace within the premade box. The pre-made boxes are great for most people, but some people want something a little better and are willing to pay extra for it.
