I just finished building my box and I need to seal it now. I have silicon tubes and this white **** that takes weeks to get off my hands. Which would work better? Thanks

 

I made 2 boxes so far for Third Gens. On for my Bird, one for my friends Z.

I used CLEAR Silicone on both of the boxes and it workes great, Completly air tight!.

 

I used the white **** that works fine. it said it dries in 24 hours and rubbs of my hands like elmers. Dont know what you have there.

 

The stuff I use bonds to hands in 10 minutes..


It dries in 1 hour.


Your supostu let it cure overnight to let the smell out.

 

i definitely don't recommend this at all, but me and a buddy built a crappy box in a few minutes and sealed it with duct tape.........lots and lots of duct tape. we were on a tight budget and time schedule, so we cut corners. it still sounded all right, though. oh well, who cares, it wasn't for my car

 

Hey for the hell of it ya could try these:
Rubber Cement
Shoe Repair/Patching Glue

 

ehhh.... a tube of silicone costs 5 dollars at lowes, home depot, wherever.. whats the problem

It onlky costs 4 bux in canada. Thats like 2.75 USD!

 

I was wondering because i read somwhere that silicon was bad for the subs. Im not positive, but it was somthing that started with a "s" I think. If anybody knows what I am talking about please tell me. Thanks

use whatever, only let the smell out! I leaved my box open 2 days to make sure before installing the driver.
anyways, some drivers with a different surround dosen`t have that problem.

 

It's bad if put around the surround of some speaker...for the enclosure, clear silicon will do just fine.

 

you let the silicon cure. Yes I have heard that silicon will eat the rubber surrounds from subwoofers, but thats only if you put the sub in without letting it cure. You know how strong this **** is? Just please dont put your head inside the box. If you smell it you get a real bad sting in the nose LOL.

 

how long does it take to cure anyway? im goin on 3 weeks now not cause of the silicone of course heheh.. finally got the amp today, so hopefully i can get it all put together soon!

 

My bottle says 24 hrs to cure.

 

Man, its just rubber. The best thing to do is go to home depot or lowes. HOME DEPOT IS BETTER!!! sorry had to say that. Any way if you get some stuff that can withstand weather beatings and still keep its shape Its going to work inside a sealed box. ITS JUST RUBBER!
