A simple easy to use equalizer with all the trimmings!
special "listening position" control on Sony's XE-90 Mk2. You also get nine bands of equalization control over a range of +/-12 dB. EQ bands are at 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1.5k, 3k, 6k, and 12k Hz. You can choose to bypass the EQ completely, or you can select which speakers get adjusted (front only, rear only, or both front and rear).
You get two sets of full-range outputs for directing a signal to front and rear amplifiers. And there is also a dedicated subwoofer output with a built-in selectable 80/120 Hz low-pass crossover and a subwoofer level control (0 to +10 dB).
The XE-90 Mk2 is a convenient half-DIN size for easy rack mounting or placement under your dash. (7"W x 1"H x 5-3/8"D.)

i dunno.. for 250 i got my kenwood head unit with oogles of settings inside, can change every possible thing about the sound ouput.. i guess since you already got the head unit and such, an add-on eq might help you out a bit.. but i know you're going to upgrade your system eventually, why not put the 100 towards a really nice head unit?

Ehh.. My pos doesnt sould that bad. Guess I'm just looking to for something to blow off money on. And hell my Dads Camaro had this clarion EQ that makes those stock speakers sound great. Hey I should just buy that from him! Clarion rocks!
I have that EQ
Redbird
I've had that EQ for about 3 years now and I think it was a great investment (paid $50 from a friend) but nonetheless when paired with my Pioneer headunit and Infinity's all around, amps etc, it produced some really nice SQ. Its durable as hell too, as i had it installed but not mounted properly for quite some time and it was banged around a bit.
Now I have it mounted until my center air vents. Slightly conspicous but that was the best place i could think of. I dunno if this helps you decide, but i am very happy with mine.

You can fit both a 1/2 DIN EQ and a full DIN HU in the same space where the stock radio goes. It is a tight fit, but just get the dashboard kit that is cut for both spaces.
Personally, I prefer an EQ with a SA display. If anyone is interested in how you can set this up, email me for pics.

I have a pair of audiocontrol EQT's and if you don't have an RTA and your not competing they are almost too much to worry about. 30 bands a side is too much for me to adjust using only my ears. I think a half din eq in your dash will do you fine. Somthing like the one you are looking at would probably make you happy.

Basically I just cut a flat piece of ABS plastic to the right shape and cut the head unit and EQ holes with a dremel. Then I mounted the EQ to the plastic piece with a couple of ABS angle brackets (homemade via heat gun). So the EQ is attached to the plastic piece, but the head unit still slides in and out of the metal mounting bracket. I had to lengthen the wires going to the transmission shifter to get the EQ and 3 sets of RCA's to fit right.
That pic was taken pre-kick panel

i was thinking of getting the Kicker IQ900 (i think thats the number...) i saw it on www.sounddomain.com its a 9 band EQ with 3 or 4 preouts, and all the cool options, but now im considering audio control... i dont know if i only want 4 bands of EQ.. i thought 9 would kind of be a good adjustment number of bands but i dont know now.. which EQ do you think is nicer.. the 3.1, or the kicker unit?

i was planning on competing this summer, but the motor swap has taken up all of my time. maybe when i get it all done and head back up to school.
89V6FBIRD: you should name your car Pioneer, too. :sillylol: Not that I'm one to talk... I'm doing the same thing with Soundstorm Labs.
Anyway, about those faceplates with the 1/2-din EQ in them... some company called Metra makes them. They have a GM pack that comes with a number of different faceplates. Pretty cool, I think. I got the pack at Pep Boys to install my CD player today. When I get an EQ I'll be using that plate.

Alpine ERE-G180, 11 band EQ ;)
I've had that same EQ for about 10 yrs. now, and I am 100% happy with it. Although mine's model # is #3331. But they haven't changed a single feature on it since then.
It's about a $250 EQ (not exactly cheap), but the thing I like most about it is the variable control crossover from 50-120Hz. It's much more accurate than most EQs that have a 50/80/120 switch.
Plus the Alpine crossover is a HP/LP. Again, most EQs have what they call a subwoofer crossover, but it's mainly a LP to the sub, but still let's low frequencies to your other speakers. That can either damage the main speakers (cause we know most of us love a lot of bass
), or just cause poor SQ from the phase shifts of two different size speakers trying to produce the same frequency at the same time. And it's a 18 dB/octave crossover on on the LP, and 12 dB/octave on the HP. So it's very accurate.
I can definately say that it's high quality. Mine's 10+ yrs. old, and no problems at all. Go here Alpine and check it out. IMO, it's well worth the money.
