Installed my Diamond speakers into my kicks

and it sucks.

My kickers didn't sound very good either, but I was hoping for a big improvement when I upgraded to the Diamond components. The highs are dull (I always though that diamond stuff was bright), and my midbass is wicked thick. The Diamonds don't seem to stage nearly as well as the Kickers did either. The thick midbass is probably because my kicks aren't sealed, but overall I'm not impressed. I guess I'll be making a sealed set of kicks, and then using my Audio Control EQTs to smooth out the sound.

In the meantime I've got to play with the phasing of the individual drivers. I haven't had time yet to start doing that. I'll try to keep everybody updated with my progress. Sometimes playing with the phase of 1 or 2 drivers can make a world of difference in sound quality and especially imaging.

Are the Diamond components supposed to be sealed? I know MB Quart recommends against using their components in a sealed environment.

I'm not sure what model diamond seperates I have, but I installed the 5 and 1/4 seperates in the stock locations in my truck and they sounded junk. I had to use my EQ to tune it. Now they sound great! Clear and crisp. I think its something about the crossover that comes with them ...

I like my JL Audio XR's.

Yeah, those diamonds have some serious mid-bass. I thought they were a pretty good spkr overall though (from word of mouth, never had exp with them)...oh well. I will stick with the JL's until I get either Focal Utopia's or Rainbow Pro's.
