JL audio 6" subs in kick panels enclosures?
No they wont fit. The kickpanels are made for 5 and 1/4" seperates. The 6.5" speaker is actually a midrange bass speaker, not a sub. The 6.5" set should also come with a tweeter (its a component set for midrange and high's). If you want to use the 6.5's (they are excellent for midrange), you can do what I'm doing. I found a bracket to convert the 6x9 opening to accept the 6.5" misbass driver. Then you just need to custom mount the tweeter. Combine that with a seperate setup in the front (5 and 1/4's in a kickpanel like you asked about in the other post), and some subs in the back (2 10's or 12's) and you'll have a very nice sounding setup.

They'll fit in the kicks, but they would need to be closed to create an enclosure. The depth is a little more than I would reccomend for the kicks too. It could work though. If you look at the JL Audio website they call their 6" W0 "a true subwoofer". It would be cool, but the custom stuff to make it work would drive up the price a little.

You're either going to have to find a new place to put your feet or you're going to have to chop up the metal panels behind the kick panels to get enough airspace for those subs to work worth a damn. Then after all that work, you're still going to have a severely limited bandwidth due to the physical limitations of the small driver. Those work nice running a pass-band of 50-80hz, or even 50-200 since they'll be up front, but you would still need a sub for the 50-down range. Because of that, all you wind up doing is complicating the soundstage with additional drivers. Running a pair of 6.5" components with the bass driver running 60+ or 80+ will probably result in better sound and less headaches.

With only .15 cu.ft. of airspace required, I don't think it would be much of a problem. Jim's right about the narrow bandwidth operation though. They don't like to reproduce sound below about 60-70 hz and they peak at 100-120, in most enclosures. To me that's just annoying. Again, it probably could be done. I'm guessing the price would be around $250-$270 for a set.

There are some good midbass speakers out there that have alot less mounting depth and would provide the midbass you may be looking for. Orion had a 6MB and an 8MB and I know kicker has the same sort of deal going. I have a 6.5 inch midbass in my door with a 4 inch component set in the kicks. I'm happy with it. I keep wanting to try a 8MB in the door and a 5.25 component set in the kicks. I don't know if it would be that much better to warrant building new door panels though. Anyway something like this might be easier to manage than that JL sub from what I'm gathering.
