Anyone using CAD programs to design boxes?
I was wanting to know what CAD programs people are using to design sub boxes.
Thanks,
Brian

CAD is computer aided drafting. It's used to show what size each board has to be, what the exact dimensions are, and what your total material needed is.
Two totally different programs.

That program only tells you what size of a box to use, and what size ports, and how many, etc. It gives you a layout of what the frequency output should be.

You're correct, and I do know the diff., but winisd alpha does calculate box dimensions, etc., and you can model changes in the box and see the effect that it has on all of the sound characteristics. winisd beta models more sound parameters, but does not calculate box dimensions.

With CAD you can form a box that has 42 different angles and it'll show you what size each piece has to be, the angles that each joint has to be at, the angle that will be formed by joining the two pieces together, or three pieces, or 20 pieces, etc.
They're nowhere near the same type of program.
You're right in that WinISD doesn't allow for as complex a box as what you're talking about (a complex box would be beyond that program's ability to calculate the sound charaterisics). But it is a CAD program, just one that can only work with two different types of box shapes (cubic and trapezoidal.) It all depends on what 89BlackGTA was asking for.....a pure CAD program to help him assemble a box, or one that plots the sound his box will make. And in answer to your earlier Q, 89Black GTA, it is very easy to use.
He asked what CAD programs people are using.
WinISD isn't even remotely close to a CAD program. I have WinISD and I know what it can do, but it's not designed at all like a CAD program.
You are misleading him.
WinISD is a helpful program to show you what size box will do what for a particular woofer, but it's not the same as CAD. Not in any way, shape, or form.
89blackGTA,
If you want to get WinISD, and see what it's all about, then go to
LinearTeam and you can download it.
Like I said, it's a good program, but it's not CAD!!!!!

I have used Solid Works, which is a parametric modeler (like AutoCAD but you make every thing in an isometric view). Its used in engineering, but it is very easy to design boxes with.
