MP3 head unit owners needed...
Im having some trouble with ID3 tags. I own a clarion head unit (see sig) and the mp3 support works fine but for folders and tracks it just says FOLDER 1, FOLDER 2 etc. and MP3 TRACK 1, MP3 TRACK 2 etc. These mp3s have their id3 tags entered and they show up fine in winamp. My question is, why dont they show up on the head unit display? I know you can enter then in on the head unit, but hmmm for some reason I dont feel like sitting down and labeling 150+ songs on every cd i burner using four directional keys. So is there a way I can get them to show up using my computer or do I need to leave it like MP3 TRACK 1 and MP3 TRACK 2/enter them in on the head unit. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

what cd burning software are you using? and what operating system? Ive used Winxp's native burning capibilities by just dragging and dropping all of my mp3's to the cd writer then when i click "write these files to cd" it will as as an audio cd? or as a data cd, you select data then it burns, and it works, I do the same with Roxio easy cd creater 5.0 platinum, i dont change any settings just drag/drop/burn. I use these mp3's on my PIONEER DEH-P-8400 mp3/wma deck.
90FirebirdV6, welcome to the board
When you put the CD in your headunit, do the mp3 names show up, or does it also say "folder 1, mp3 track 1, etc"? He doesn't have a problem playing the mp3s, he just wants to have the names show up.

Thanks 90firebirdv6. I figured it out today. All I had to do was freaking change display modes
This clarion deck has a hella strong laser, plays crystal clear with plenty of punch and looks mint. But it needs more buttons for functions. Theres just to many menus and functions for the limited buttoms on it. Pretty much my only complaint so far. That and it runs pretty hot. I gotta admit this mp3 head unit stuff is intimidating at first but once you get started you just build one step at a time. Its getting pretty sweet, I might as well throw out the 20 cds in my car. And you honestly cant tell the difference at all in sound quality.
Now my only big problem is some files dont show up, and if I put it in a folder with others it stops them from showing up as well. I think it has to do with id3 tags versions 1 and 2 (1 is supported, 2 is not).
Btw I just use win 98 and explorer to drop files in. I use adaptec direct cd to format, close, open etc. my cds. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done. Cant run to much good software on this pos anyway... Later

Ok just an update incase anyone was as dumb as I was...
90% of the MP3 processors in cars (various brands all share 1 or 2 mp3 processors/decoders) dont support id3 version 2 tags. Doesnt really matter because the only difference between the two is version 2 allows you to enter more crap about the song. Only things you can enter that you cant in version 1 are, composer (like if someone wrote a song you would enter it here, not the actual artist), original artist (only applies if its a cover or remix I guess), copyright, url, and encoded by. So these are of no use in a car anyway. I you put a file that has version 2 tags in a folder, only the first song in that folder will work, and if the first or only song in the folder is the version 2 one than the folder wont display (processor thinks its an empty folder). Dont ask me why its like this but I found it out.
As for changing a v2 to v1, just open winamp and goto file info. Click version 1 id3 tag and then at the bottom click the button that says convert to v1 id3. Then uncheck the version 2 box and your good to go. Anyway thats my learnin for the day.
