Not to bad considering how they sound. I am thinking about the 15 inch Solobarics for my new box but I think I will have to pass if I still want that paint job this winter

nahh m8 there is something wrong there, they are seeling them at that price cause noone will buy them. u try n get an amp to power that thing n ull be crying. im telling u dont look at RMS and excusion, go with some good recomendations, i personaly think that those kicker ones look pish, what kinda music u into? we are definatly going with the JL's but its ur call, i know what the JL's can do punch and drone, but we are punch guys so we are going with a 10 and 2 8's i think. got a good price for a 10w6v2 so it might b one of them as it got an amazing write up by a proper audio mag in the UK. we arent going for a system that will win competitions cause we dont need it to, we are going for somthing the is awsome, sounds g8 and can do all kinds of music, we hope the car will get us featured and the ICE will just b a bonus and a prject to do.

subs depend on ur kinda music and what u want it for, subs that can shatter glass are gonna kill perspex and eat ur box for supper seems a good box though. but no point in killing it...

Hmm... Guess your right. There are different kinda subs for different kinds of music. Well I like loud rock! Real loud with Clear bass. But every now and then I like to pop in some Besty boys Beastie boys. You know that song Paul Revere where the pass is all backwards. I need my subs to crank for that and some Industrial rock that has some techno FX in the background. But mostly rock. What would my best bets be for that. My price range for each sub I'll go 150--200.

Hey dudes I need some help here. This bondo is going to take forever and it adds a load of weight. I dont think I need anymore glass cause the bondo is strong enough. Would there be any difference in sound by coating the inside with bodo oppose to leaving it with glass? Well I need a easier way to coat the inside and make it flat. This is going to take up space but I can alwayz add more to the top and just angle it down. But see the wooden beams they are are about 1/4th of an inch about the glass. Is there anything else besides bondo that is eaisier to work with?

I used the bondo on the outside for now. There is about 7-8 LBS of it on there. I dont want to use to much cause its getting heavy. I probably wouldnt of had to use it I didnt use that fleece. Should of just stapled the mat and foil on the outside. Oh well live and learn. Carpet doesnt sound all that bad about now but I dont have any speakers so I'm in no hurry and will keep on sanding down the bondo. I just need some easier way to fill in the inside to make it kinda flat. Bondo is going to take alot of time and add weight. This is really not the point of fiberglass right? Well I dont know, how much does a wooden box this size weight?

Not to rain on anyones parade, but Bass doesnt break glass. At all. If you broke a glass door with a sub, one of two things happened:

You THREW the sub through the glass door.

Or there was already a crack in it.

The ability to rattle a material with a sound wave depends on the sound wave being generated at the materials natural resonating frequency. For glass, it happens to be very high, thats why theres all those gay commericals about opera singers breaking yuppie wine glasses.

You can shatter already cracked glass with Bass just because the crack will rattle until it starts to break.

On the topic of Subs.....

The R drive 12's are very nice, and they sound very clean for the money. If the "R" logo is the issue, mount them inverted, that will increase the volume of your box by the displacement of the sub, and cover up the logo. Not to mention, i think inverted subs are nice looking.

MA audio subs are allright for heavy slamming, but a personally dont think theyre a great SQ sub. They sound a tad sloppy.

The kickers are great subs too, i used to have a bunch of their old ones. Square vs. Round....... Not even gonna go there, lol.

Good luck

my friend has type R 12 in a custom box in his grand prix GT, and it slams, its only being fed 200 RMS but its still loud, and the sound quality is not lacking at all, ALPINE is a winner in my book for these subs

I'm real close to deciding on these type Rs. I want LOUD bass when I want to hear it. I was just so damn disappointed with the two 10" cerwin hed speakers. Though a freind was being cool by getting me these. Now I know he is just a rip off pos. I really should have came here first where the people know their ****.

My buddy has two Type R 10s and he took them to the db drag yesterday and he has 150RMS to each speaker. He hit 132.6. When he gets the dual 2 ohm voice coil type r's he will have 300RMS to each and he'll get it tested again.

Damn thats loud I really think this is what I want.

>the latest on the box. I bought another gallon of resin. Now I'm just pouring the krap on the inside and letting it dry a smooth layer so that I dont have to sand or do anything that has to do with hard work for now. Take a look, its working out great. Except for the fact that its about 70 out side. Its not drying as quick as I like but its drying.

I dont think you want carpet on the inside, cause thats going to absorb some of the sound, and I know you dont want that.

I was thinking about it today, and instead of getting just a couple of highly efficient performance subs, why not get like 6 efficient and small rms subs for an impressive display in that huge box? You should be able to get more small rms subs at a lower price, right? And still maintain quality?

BTW.... if you go with the R drive 12's, look at the MRD line of amps from alpine. They have the MRD-300 and the MRD-500.

Make sure you get the DVC 4 ohm ones. Then you can hook each sub up to their own amp at 2 ohms (stable). A friend of mine has 2 12's with the MRD-300's, 1 amp per sub. It sounds sweet. Ive heard the MRD-500's give a little more headroom, and a little more punch. Great amps, easy to set up together (the MRD-500's can even be daisychained), and dont draw to much power.

check out the JBL powervalve amps before the alpine ones, my friend is running his one 12 type R off of the alpine MRD-300 and it just doesnt give off enough power, espesially for the price!

Hey man I can't get alpine because to be a legit dealer you have to have been in business at least 6 months. Alpine I cannot get.also JL will not allow more than one dealer in a city. and there already is one where I'm at, so I can't get them either. here is a quikc list of what I can

Pioneer
Panasonic
Kicker
Audiobahn
Infinity
Lightning audio capacitors
JVC
Dynamat

I'm workign on getting more, but it is just a hassle to work w/ HUGE companys like some of em. But that is what I can get for now.

Did you know if you put some resin and water in a cup then squirt a load of hardener in it, that would cause a big chemical reaction and foam a big mess everywhere? I have to try this but I dont want to waste all the hardener.

Sometimes when I play a song in my car that has 2 bass lines in it...like Justin Timberlakes song "Like I Love You", the sub seems to distort while trying to play both bass lines. When only one is present in the music, it sounds great, but it sounds a little..."wobbly" when the second line of bass comes in.

Is this normal? Should I tune the amp to filter out more bass frequencies? Would adding another sub make it easier for the two to make the sounds, therefore reducing this effect?

do both subs run off one amp? if they run off 2, get one to filter out bassline and the other to filter out bassline 2, ergo u get 2 subs doing 1 bassline each

Oh krap it just erased all that **** I typed in the reply. Well what kinda box and amp do you have? I would turn down the bass on the amp. If that doesnt work ask one of the pros here. I'm sure they would know.

Its cold out here so I'm using this heater to help dry the glass. This box is getting kinda heavy. I think I just might use it for a while and if slows my ride down I'm probably sell it to someone who doesnt care about speed. It will be good enough to enter comps and catch a few eyez. Cant wait to primer it though. All of this glassing, bondo laying and sanding **** is getting old. Time to finish that krap.

Look out for bad hardener. The stuff I just got from home depot was kinda fuked up. The can was leaking from the top edges. One of them leaked all over the counter. He he.. thats going to be a nasty mess to clean up. With out the hardener its going to make that counter real sticky. Like a fly trap sticks. Well I opened it when I got home and the spout had all this dried up glass in it sealing the can. I had to take a screw driver and make a little hole. The hardener didnt work as well as the last stuff. Maybe cause it is 65 out here. But twice as much hardener and the heater worked just fine. I hear that hardener can go bad though. Anyone hear of this?

Where ya @ ¿ Its been raining here in Dallas, Texas for about 4 dayz. Good fishtailing weather though. This isnt making it easy for me to build a fiberglass box. That and work keeps getting in the way. Heh.. cant skip here or they will throw me out the door. Well @ least I have the next day off. Maybe I can get all the bondo and smoothing out done by then.
