Is this normal? Should I tune the amp to filter out more bass frequencies? Would adding another sub make it easier for the two to make the sounds, therefore reducing this effect?

u not got a power sander? i used a dremel to cut off all the wee bumps but the fiberglass eats the cutting discs, so i used the grind stone and smothed off shapes.
what bits u gotta sand down?

I have a orbital sander and a dremell but it just works real slow. Not a bad sander, its a real loud black and decker. I guess I just need some kinda air toolz. That would be great! I just dont think the compressor that is in my price range would power the tools for very long. I think I'm going to sand down those wooden beams that stick up above the glass. Better that then fill it with more heavy glass. Hmm.... need a new sanding wheel for the dremell. Man that thing will eat up anything but its just 5 bucks for a new wheel. I'm telling you this project is getting expencive. Might have to pay the electric bill next month. 3 dollar late charge
so shoot me TU electric.

Cool I'll see what I can find @ home depot. Maybe some grinding wheels and some rough paper. I need the tool to open the dremell cause its stuck on the lowest speed and wont crank higher. Such a krock. Maybe I can open the display one and rip out the parts I need. J\k I wouldnt do that.

Well I just bough an edge grinder from a pawn shot and put a sanding plate on it. Its cool, if I'm not carefull I can sand a 4 inch circle hole through the whole box in about 5 seconds. It really takes down the glass quick. Best 40 bucks that I'v spent in a while.

Same program that I used to make this.
Yeah I'm done with the box here it is
(I wish)
When I was done with this I was like
OMG!!! Did I just make that?
Well it started out as a cheap photochop that I just wanted to see what it looks like black. Well that cheap photochop and a couple hours later I came up with this. Most of that is cut and paste. Like the flames, got it off some web site. THe glass is really a cloud that I pasted in there and made some kinda transparent FX. The ports are from someone elses speaker on the net. The neon lights are from yahoo and the red glow is just the brush tool. Photochop isnt as hard as some may think it is.
This is my plan on what to do. Right now I have a little more sanding and some bondo to lay. So uhh..... what do you think?

I think it would look pretty sweet. I havent seen anything like it before. I dont know if you would have to airbrush it, it the inside was smooth enough and you got some quality decals that might work. Unless you or someone you know is good with an airbrush.

yeah decals could work, tip: if i was u id take out the port holes, better for SPL but they produce more droney bass
actually that design was already created its called a "folded horn enclosure" and it does work to some extent its how bose made there wave radio get so much bas out of such a little speaker but they didnt come up with the design for it and honestly you get more bass out of an enclosed box than that ive experimented with boxes like that and what not and for cars, the FHE design isnt worth it for a home system, hell yeah but not for en enclosed area like a car
steve how the hell is that box anything like the bose crap? huh enlighten me please. becuz what redbird is makin a a fiberglass box that fits very nicly in the back of our cars and if u look at his photoshop its just a plain jane box. no tubes runing this way or that way, its juat a good lookin fiberglass box in that pic, in those stupid bose thingys they have plastic tubing runing around in them but theres none in that box. so basicly it will be a enclosed box, not no FHE bullcrap or what ever the heck that crap is that bose has out.

TBH that kinda box is called a bass relex enclosure, ive got it in me PC speakers ands its gr8, for SPL its recomended but its gonna echo throughout the car more, more drone. for in car id say that a fully enclosed box is best, better punch and slightly less noise but it'll b of a higher quality, the advanted of fully closed is that the pressureised air behind the sub helps the cone to b pushed back out and assists the suspension of it, where as in a ported box only the susspention pulls the cone bac to position, unless uve got a dual coil sub which moves in both directions.
for in home systems its used the location as a box in a sense and so is gr8. but in a car go with fully enclosed, unless ur really into the low down bassy drones like in rap. if u wanna win volume drags, put ur subs up side down, if u wanna win SPL go with ported, if u wanna win SQ go with fully enclosed, if u just want ur box to sound g00d for listening to in the car and aint worried about winning comps then u want good quality sound and so go with fully enclosed. problem with ported is that where u put ur ports is very important changes the type of sound
my m8 was don 2night with his new JL's and has made a ported box the the secifications given. he doesnt like it and wants better punch bass as its much better for dance music, so he is thinking about closing up his ports
I think im right but i might b wrong, so if i am, sue me
hehe

Just laid down some primer.
>so you think I should go with a sealed box and no ports. Quality bass is going to be what I'm looking for. There wont be any rap in my car. Just rock and industrial rock. Maybe some techno....well its got to have an electric guitar in it.

Ahh yes the Jilted Generation. Good shat. Dont know if that song is on that cd but........its a good cd. I'll see if I can download that song BUY!!! yeah thats what I ment Buy the cd.
I bought the bondo in a spray cheese can. Its easy to work with but I have no clue why someone would want to use that on their car. It comes out as foam so its not all that solid. I sure wouldnt use it on my car. At walmart I was looking at that spray can of aircraft paint stripper. Heh.. You know whats fuked up. They lock up all the paint but paint stripper like that is just sitting out free for falling into the wrong hands. You know if someone wanted to they could easily steal that can, go out in the parking lot then cause a million dollars worth of damage to peoples carz. I would kick their azz before they got to my ride. Then I would spray that krap on his face and watch him burn. Where do I come up with this kinda shat? Hmm... to much coffee. Well here is the box with spray bondo on it. Its kinda cloudy out so its going to take a while before it dries. So I'll be whoring for a while.

Hey Red, that box is looking NICE. I would go sealed all the way. My buddy with the 2 type r 10 has it sealed and it thumps with rock rap and all between. You might want to seperate the airspace though. I think that would help a decent amount. And you can still flame it out and everything.

How would dividing the airspace between the two subs help the sound?
Also, about the ported enclosure drone...if you have dual voice coil subs, it doesn't drone? Just wondering cause if I'm right, those MA Synergy subs I was talking about use dual coils.
Since ported subs are known for droning, just what IS the use in them? Do you mean that a ported box would more easily produce an earthquake style shaking bass and that total enclosure produces hard hits easier? And if that is right, then why not divide the subs, and port one side? That way you get the both of best worlds!

dividing them would allow u to set the crossoverrs differently so that u could have one sub doing a different level of bass than the other and to stop interferance.
yeah ported = earthquake :P they are used where that kinda effect if wanted, u can make a box that does both kinds seal and ported with the seal at the front of the sub and ported at the back. yeah in a dual coil sub they have a coil moving them back and forth where as in a 1 channel sub its just moving back i think. not 2 sure ill need to cheak up

Im sure Jim or someone more knowledgeable than i can come in and clean up my mistakes here, but i BELIEVE:
Ported vs. Sealed. Sealed takes more power to reproduce the same amount of bass, but reproduces a cleaner sound, at the expensive of the previously mentioned inefficiency.
With a Ported box, however, you can 'tune' with the port (based on calculations regarding the diameter, length, and location of the port) which allows the sound waves from behind the sub to cause Positive interference with the sound waves in front of the sub. You can also tune it to different frequencies for certain applications.
I read somewhere that for high SPL, Ported enclosures are bad because above a certain SPL, it just starts to "unload." Not sure if this is true, just what i read. I know i read that they tend to be more boomy, and not as clean.
Hope this helps with the confusion.

K I guess I'll try no ports. I'm sure I will get the bass I need anyway. Btw the spray bondo, bad idea. It never dried right and now I have to peel the stick krap off. Such a bad idea.

I was trying to use it to fill in some little cracks. But wallmart took it back for credit. I just used that to buy some paint. Ha! it was half used and they still took it back.
Well more primer is drying so I guess I'll just stick around here and *****.

Yeah its alright but not what I wanted. I Was thinking of the perfect box. You know completely smooth... I though the bondo would do that for my but that krap takes to long and I'm getting the speakers here in a week or so. Well maybe more depending on shipping. That bondo in a spray can really pissed me off. Well I have decided that its not going to be the perfect box. Its going to have some flaws. I just dont want to sand on that thing forever. The next one will be much easier cause I have allready learned from my mistakes on this one. Oh well.......

I think they are about 200 bucks a pair. There are many sites with prices like that I just went to www.google.com and search for type R subwoofers. That brought up a few thousand sitez.

and as to the deacals do them on computer, print them, cut them out, glue them with paper gule to the box and then laquer over them makes them look airbrushed on.

I think I might just hold off on the air flames for now and just make the top. This dude @ home depot says he has a cut for 30 bucks. I know I have found it for a little over 20 on the net but then you have to pay shipping then wait for it..screw that. Save a few bucks and waste alot of time naaaa.... I think I'll use some kinda weather stripping to latch the top down on the box. This will make it detachable and air tight. And yes we cant forget the locks that will hold the top down on the box and the lock that holds the box in the car. That I will have to put more thought into how I'm going to make it the locks but for now I'm only thinking of the glass. Here is a pic of a table top on the box just to *** around.

Here is a little photochoping job. I hope the real stuff is as easy to make as it is here on the computer.
