Slipknot? Yeah I had that song "left behind" stuck in my head ever since I woke up. Had to pop it on as soon as I turned on the pc. The holes for the speaker I can probably get a jig saw and put masking tape on the metal part of the saw so it doesnt scratch the glass. That should work. The only reason that I took off the film protection stuff is cause when I'm using my angle grider to cut it, it starts to burn and turn black. THe glass does that a little to. Throwing strans of melted plastic everwhere. It makes a mess but works. So what do you jam over there?

that box is awesome man. Simply beautiful. I'm going to be making a driver side stealth box out of Fiberglass come summer. Gonna use this huge thread as a reference.

Thanx 3.1EyeCandy.....>Hey how cold is it there?
Hey 89,
I dont yet know what kinda amp is good. I just know which ones are terrible so I'll probably need some help here. Its got to power those 300RMS 1000peak type R's and its got to put out clean sound. What amp would you recommend?

I would say get the JBL 600.1 It pushes around 700rms and you can get it for $205 at ikes. My buddy is pushing his type r's with an alpine V12 MRD-M500 but it was twice as much and isnt 1 ohm stable. He is going to put his current setup in his boat and put two 2 ohm type r's and a JBL 1200.1 in his truck.

The MRD-500 is two ohm stable, because its designed to run one 4 ohm DVC Type R, 12 inch ot 15. You grab two of them, one for each sub. I did a car with 2 MRD-300's (instead of the 500's), it was good for SQ, they were clean and tight, and had enough umph for my friend to drive around like an as<x>shole and have someone alreadyt try to break in, but i think the 500's are more suited to those needs. Theyre a bit pricey, but imo theyre great. THey dont draw a ton of power (he doesnt even have lights dimming with the bass, and hes got two of them), and theyre great (simple) to set up.
<shrug> But youll get a hundred different responses as to whats good. Theres definetely better setups, theres definetely worse, ya know?

stay away from the alpine 500 it is way to overpriced for the power that it "claims" to put out, i would go with the JBL 600.1 go here to read a thread about this exact ? https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=140251
that thread may have helped him out a bit if it hadnt turned in to a bitchfest between people arguing about how to read power ratings, lol.
Redbird: Like i said, id check around for yourself, do some digging, email some companies if you have questions. Everyones got their own personal favorites, and everyone wil bash one company or another.
Go to a few soundoff's or a few places and see if you can hear a few different combos. Its hard to find certain stuff (around here youll be hard pressed to find a Focal or PPI dealer, for instance), but for the most part you can still find stuff to demo.
I recommend more soundoff's for listening though, so you can hear stuff IN cars.
Gimme an email if you have any other Q's i may be able to help with (dunno what). I dont want this thread to turn in to a bitch fest, lol.
Later guys

I think I'm going to go with something on etronics.com They have the lowest prices that I'v seen so far. You should check out the stuff there. Now I'm debating on the square kickers or the type Rs cause on that site the price is not all that much different for the 1000W peak range.

When u cut the plexi with a jig saw, use a spray bottle with water in it while cutting to cool off the blade so it dont melt the plexi.... I glass shop told me to do this when i was making a friends amprack..

I used an angle grinder with a cutting wheel to cut it. Havent yet tried the jig saw. Though thats a good Idea, think I'll have to try that.
if you use the jig saw, you dont necessarily have to spray it with water. Just keeping the blade on an appropriata setting, as well as keeping the protective film on it, will do wonders for not melting the plexi. If you get really ambitous, get a lighter or light duty torch, and a polishing wheel, and have at the edges. You CAN get them to be see through
Ill have to try that water thing in shop though, never heard it before. Thanks

all im saying is that my friend had the MRV300 and traded up to the jbl 300.1 and it was a night/day difference, although it was nice knowing the temperature of the amp @ any given time

Painted the L brackets black. I need to attach that top down to the box but I dont want to drill a hole in the box. I know I have to but Its just that I worked so hard making the box it feels weird drilling holes in it.

Oh that little deal is a pice of weather stipping in the box. The good thing about building a speaker box is that you can use it to store your tools and supplies while you work on it and store it.

Yeah I think I'm going to email them a animated pic of one of their hats. I set it on the grill, soaked it in lighter fluid and made a 6 foot flame. It was a tech support job. computer help on the phone...kinda sucked.

I did computer support over the phone in phoenix for like 2 years, sucked bad. You need to get a job as a network admin like I did, more money and easier hours. Then you could ***** post about twice as much.

hey redbird i belive that if you are fired the company has to give you your check in three day. thats the way it is in AZ if i were you i'd check into that before your terrorize mabey you can get more money out of them but if all else fails use some "chem paint stripper persuasion" and your wages have been recoverd
but you didnt hear that from me

hehe an open can of paint stripper on top of their car upside down with something over it to stop it from spilling, then they have to take it off and watch it go all over their own car
No way. It will definitly vibrate. But remember, sound waves are vibrations in the air, not actual crashing waves like water. There is definitive sound pressure also, but that can be taken care of with a port. But if the subs used create enough pressure....sure, the plexiglass might flex. Just depends on how much pressure the subs make, and how thick the glass is.
