Will not play burnt CD's

Hey I have an older Alpine CD player and it will play some CD's that other people have burnt but the ones I burn it will not play. Is there anything I can do to get thing thing working?

Just make sure the CDs are nice and clean...other than that, I think if it doesn't play them it just doesn't play them.

Greetings from not-so-far-away (near Dayton).

Some older cd playerz will not play cd-Rs and cd-RWs You could get a chip or something sodered into the stereo board but that would be a real PITA and easier to buy another stereo. I didnt pay attention but was it a cd-R or a cd-RW.

Try Imation CD-R's. I use them in my 98 S-10's stock radio and they play just fine they also play in my walkman. If you want an alternate brand, pick one with a silver finish on the burning side. Sometimes standard cd players will not play CD-R's with a colored surface (green, blue, etc.)

I believe what allows your head unit to read CD-R and CD-RW and scratched CDs without skipping is a strong laser. So try a different brand, it could be your brand writes it a bit weaker? Also it could be your burner writing it weaker... The stronger the laser the crappier CDs/more your head unit can read.

I have a walkman that's about 14 years old. It plays cd-r's. If the cd is not finalized it will sometimes have trouble. Are you finalizing your cd's?
I use verbatim cd's.

How's this for screwed up. My 14 year old walkman plays cd-r's but my x-box does not.

I didn't tell you this (), because apparently Microsoft hasn't attempted to publicize it (and therefore must want it to be shushed), but I seem to recall reading something back when the X-Box was first released that said it can read CD-RW's, but not CD-R's. So, you might want to give it a shot

I also agree with viprkilr, in that your burned cd's need to have been "closed" after they were completed. I had the same troubles with my in-car player until I figured out what was going on. Silly me, I thought it was an automatic function when the disc was done recording

color color color.

some players dont like certain colors of the dye used on the blank cdr's.

Ive heard that the black ones they make for style [really to burn pirate play staion games] will not work in 99.8% of all cds players even new ones.

Actually, black CD-R's are much more difficult to scratch badly enough to damage them. Take a bit of sandpaper to one, and see if it still plays. It'll skip a bit, of course, but not nearly as bad as a normal cd or cd-r would. I do believe that was why Sony decided to go with them for the Playstation in the first place. (By the way, you don't have to use black cd-r's to burn playstation games...)

Tell you what, go to a stereo shop and try the cd there at the store. If it works buy that cd player.
