Dual 15 inch Fibreglass Subwoofer Boxes... Interested?
Dual 15 inch Fibreglass Subwoofer Boxes... Interested?
Well in about 2 weeks when my car is off the road for the winter, I am going to start making a fibreglass box for my 2 15s. Would anyone be interested, or think others would be interested if I made several boxes to sell? This box would be high quality, no mdf, a top with nice curves that go down and back up to the sub ring, angled towards the front (to help with rattling, and the sound robbing hatch, proper airspace for the average two 15s and much much more. Im just not sure if the people on here do 12s or 10s because everyone else does or if they like the sound and its easier. Just want to find out now, because if no one cares I will probably just make the one for myself.
For the uninformed, 10s are tight loud bass, 15s are fairly loud, but shake the crap out of everything and can be heard for distances. The 12s are a combo of both. Thanks for any replies, and heres a surprise for clicking the post

I should have pics of my current box in a few weeks when the car is away for the winter. I am mostly likely going to sell that for $200 or so If someone just wants a mdf tops. If someone wanted me to, for a hundred more I would go get a 3/4 to 1 inch thick plexi top and put it on the right way this time (brace it, put mdf rings around to stop the cracking, etc.). What I might try next time is seeing if window tint would stick to it to stop the scratching. Its a long shot but it might work. Oh btw the mdf in it is 3/4.
More about the new boxes, I would probably only make several or so and just sell them throughout the winter. I would guess they would be about 40 pounds or less if possible. Most likely ported as well (good for another 3db!). They would be pricy though, but only because I would be putting like $150+ supplies into them. You would end up with a box that you could probably sell for almost as much as you paid for it down the road...
Whats so crappy about bondoing that box of yours redbird?

And sorry boys, if I did have her box, I dont think I would be sharing/selling it

Its just a PITA thats all. Aside from having to walk in Joans fabric store its about the hardest thing about the whole project. Man that store suxs. I need to find all my receipts and add all this up. BTW whats MDF stand for? something density Fiber?
MDF stands for Multiple Density Fibreboard. You should try this bondo glazing putty stuff. It comes in a tube or small tin can. You put it on, and whenever you want it to harded you just put it out in the sun. What I would do is put it on (you have unlimited drying time indoors, so no rush) put it in the sun for 10 minutes or so. That would get it hard, but still soft enough to sand easily. Then put it out in the sun for an hour and it will be rock hard. Add that to your cost of supplies list
