Which would you get?

Ok, I'm looking to get some speakers and I'm kinda hung up on the 6x9's. I want either the Alpine Type-R's or Audiobahn ABF series speakers. The thing that gets me stuck is, the Alpines are aluminum coated, but 2 way. The Audiobahns aren't aluminum coated, but they're 3 way. Has anyone heard either of these 2 speakers? Would there be a huge difference with having 3 way versus 2 way? My friend has some alpine speakers and he loves them, but they aren't Type-R's.

Well if your gonna have subs in the back, get the 2-ways. Cause at that point they will just be fill, and you dont want them competing with your subs. They will end up distoring.

If not, get the 3-ways, they are more bassy.

I like the Type R's , but I would recomend Infinity Kappa's.

Much better.... I have them, and my friend has the type R's. My system is cleaner sound. But his can get a little louder. Guess It really depends on what your looking for.

Go to Curcit City, and listen to them...

I'd get neither and save the money and put it towards better speakers up front or custom kicks. I'm not a fan of rear fill and I bet you'd be happier with kickpanels or whatever you put the money towards.

Circuit city has the alpine type-R's? Cool, I need to go look at 'em then... I never really liked circuit city, so i never go there much. I did find some sony's that are aluminum AND 3 way, I'm leanin toward them right now...

Kj, i think you are under the wrong impression about 2 and 3 way comps. a 3 way comp will by no means compete with a sub. heck, neither will a 2 way. 2 ways tend to be the woofer (which is the the full size of the speaker, ie 6 1/2 or 6x9) and a tweeter. 3 ways either add a super tweeter (complete waste of money.....you cant hear em) or a semi-mid (larger than the tweeter, but not by much). i will to an extent agree with you (not just trying to bash you ). for a rear set of speakers, i'd use a 2-way if you even feel the need to put anything there. STAY AWAY FROM THE SONYS. what do you have for speakers up front? it is best to get the same models of speakers for front in rear, due to the fact that they will have similar sonic qualities. if you get two different types, they will reproduce the sound slightly different, therefore drawing your ears into places they shouldnt be going

I have the bose option, I don't think there's anything in the stock locations, I just have some little 3 1/2 inch or 4 inch things in the door to the rear compartment and then some speakers in these kick panels(not sure what size, haven't figured out how to open it up to get at the speakers yet). What's wrong with sony? My uncle has some sony 6x9's that aren't even the high end ones and they sound pretty good...

Sony gets a pretty bad rap in the car audio world. They're good if you want to save some money; they're meant for the average listener and more or less as stock replacements rather than upgrades. If you love your music, you'll find the Sonys don't cut it, and over a period of time will deteriorate if pushing lots of air. If you really want an impressive system, look elsewhere. If you want something that'll get you by, go with the Sonys. I'm sure they're cheaper than Audiobahn and Alpine.

In any case, I would opt for the 2-ways if I had no other choice. For a GOOD system, I'd use 6" component speakers in there as mid-bass only (100-1000hz); or not use anything at all. A nice set of components in the kickpanels and a good sub will sound great in these cars.

Definitely, Type r's are ok. But I think everyone glamourizes them because of the Alpine name. Kappas are hands down the best speakers I've ever heard. They are friggin' awesome. Get those instead of the type r's or Audiobahns. That's my 2cents.

i made the same mistake, i raved about the sail panel speakers... they aren't much in sound quality reproduction for people sitting up front, but they add loudness if that's what you're aiming for.

As far as SQ goes, Infinitys will be the best IMO. If your wanting to shatter your back glass, get Audiobahn. - nodz -

Ive never personally used or heard audiobahn but have heard both good things and bad htings about them. DONT GET SONY's....ify our looking at sony xplodes then keep your stock speakers and dont wast your mony. They are the same things. I know Infinity Kappa's are really really good. Whats the difference between a kappa and a kappa perfect? Wich one is the better one. I looked on infinity's website and cant tell.
Take a look a diamon audio 6 sereis as well. They make very good speakers. and Presision Power just released a carbon fiber cone speaker that im interested in hearing. All are good. excpet sony.
