System setup question....

Alright audio nuts, need a few suggestions on my proposed system. This is what I'm going with for sure: Alpine CDA-7893 headunit and Infinity Kappa 6x9's in the rear. I'm not sure whether I want to go with Infinity Kappa 4x6 plates for the front or the component setup in kickpanels. My other dillemma is sub and amp. My taste in music is usually classic rock, oldies, a little country, and some modern rock/pop; basically a little of everything. I want a sub combo that will work decent no matter what kind of music I put into it (has to punch with acoustic as well as electronic bass), but I'm not going competition with it. I'm thinking either 1-12" sub in a tube or maybe 2-10" subs in 3rdgen box. I know next to nothing about what amp to choose. So I need to know what you guys think will work best in my situation.

If I go with plates for the front, can I just run them off the headunit? I'm thinking I'll get a 4-channel amp and run the 6x9's off the high side of the amp and run the subs off the low-end while the fronts work off the headunit. Or am I going to have trouble balancing it all out, sound environment-wise.

kick panels and a nice component set have awesome sound if done right... i say... get some 6x9's or 6½'s for the rear... run them off the head unit... get a 4 channel amp that puts out about 75W x 4 or higher... and have the component set amped up front
and u could go with a kenwood or low end fosgate or some other 10 or 12 inch sub bridged off the rear amp outputs

if your going to get a 4 channel amp for 2 speakers, that a waste. just get a 2 channel then. if you get a good 4 channel amp, you can wire your 4x6's and your 6x9's to each channel, and turn down the power to your 4x6's so you don't blow them.

don't put 6.5's in the back, 6x9's are much louder and have alot more power. (trust someone who has tried it)

as for the subs, thats up to you really. if you just want 2 10's, you can get 2 Pioneer's for $50 dollars each, 450 watt. then get a nice 700-800 watt kenwood or pioneer amp to go with them, i think a 700 watt is around... $275-350? i forget off the top of my head. You can build your own box for around $35 dollars for the wood. Or you can buy a 3rd gen box for $150 for the standard.

if you go with plate up front i would not amp them, they would blow to easily and since they are so small, they are usually pretty efficient speakers.

i would personally go with a pair of components in some kickpanels. if your are looking for something sound quality oriented, i would suggest getting a 4 channel amp to run the front components and bridging the rear to 1 12" sub in a box with the correct internal volume. then, either forget the rear speakers or get some cheap 6.5's or 6x9's and run those off the headunit. This will keep you soundstage upfront and give you a nice full sound.

I would suggest one 12 JL WO. That would give you the little thump that you want without completely draining your wallet. My friend has 2 12 WO's in a badpass in his car with his back seat taken out, and its seriously ungodly loud, very very impressive considering its the lowest line JL makes. The local stereo shop has a deal going on wo's, buy one get one half off, and with a bandpass on ebay, for right around 200 bucks Im gunna have 2 brand new 12's in a box.

Sorry it took me awhile to get back to this. Iwasn't expecting this many responses really. As it stands now, it looks like I'll be getting the following:

Alpine CDA-7893 HU
Alpine 12-Disc Changer
Infinity Kappa 6-1/2" Components in a DJSexay kickpanel setup
Infinity Kappa 3-way 6x9" in the rear.
Alpine 5-channel amp (not sure the rating yet)
Infinity 12" sub in a tube (assuming I can find a tube with proper airspace for the sub.)

Now correct me if I'm wrong but a sub tube will work nicely as long as its matched to the airspace volume requirements of the sub. Will it sound different than putting the sub in a box of same volume?

And thats the best sounding $2000 I can think of for a sound system!

well to me it sounds liek you want to set up your system for SQ. what i would do is get 3 8" (yes i did say 8") memphis studio subs. put then in a ported box. then i would run Memphis 15-46PL 4x6 Plates in the front and memphis 15-PR93 6x9's in the rear. Then to make it EZ to hook up and for a nice clean install i would run the Memphis Belle. The Memphis Belle runs your whole system. it is a 5ch. amp. i forgot the specs. on it but i know that its a AB class amp and D class. this system would be a sweet sounding system. if you want more out of the system i would get a 13 band EQ for it as well. if you want more info on the memphis line go to www.memphiscaraudio.com

SO what dollar figure are we talking about for a Memphis setup? I checked into their website, its impressive, but since they only sell through a professional dealer/install shop, they didn't have any price ranges listed. Also their nearest dealer is not a convenient place for me.

you talking about $2,500 to $3,000 for the system. you wouldn't go wrong with the Memphis line at all. there would be no need to upgrade for a long time. you will hears things on that system you didn't even know where on the CD.

I take it $2500-3000 is for a complete car setup, i.e. speakers, sub, amp, installation??

It depends on what you want and what you wanna spend.. you don't have to pay $2,500-$3,00 to get a good system...too much... system building is expodential i bet the Memphis system isn't much more noticable than mine. i use Blaupunkt, Focal, JBL, Profile, and Alpine...1600 total watts in such a small car is enough for me.. and i spent:
Profile ClarusCL800 200wx2 - $239
Focal Polykevlar 165k - $280
Alpine 10s TypeR(2) - $210
Blaupunkt Miami Beach - $200
JBL1200 - $275
Total = $1204
then i bought:
8guage kit - $50
4guage kit - $35
yellow top optima - $150
battery termial - $15
box - built myself $?
kickpanels (Rez) - $148
Monster Dig. Cap - $85 (MSRP $200 )
grand total = $1642
- And I installed everything myelf.....so no Install $$

White Ninja, that sure sounds like a complex system.

I'm just looking into 6x9's, a set of components w/ kickpanels (don't want to modify the 4x6 area to fit in plates) for the front, and a single sub for bass. I'm liking the Memphis Belle amp, which simplifies things for me, seeing as I've never dealt with an amp or a sub before. If/when I get the money together I'd like to do it myself. I'm set on the headunit I want to use: the Alpine CDA-7893. I just need to figure out my speaker set-up and how I want to amp them.

you could build a nice system for $2,000 or less... here's what I was going to do...

JVC KD-SH707 CD Player - $235 **eBay**
Kick Panels - $150 **DJSexay**
Polk EX 6½" Comp Set - $150 **open box at Circuit City... had for over a year now and still sound great!!**
Polk EX 6x9's - $30 **new on eBay**
USAcoustics Amp 65Wx4 - $95 **new on eBay**
USAcoustics Amp 150Wx2 @ 2 ohms - $95 **new on eBay**
2 Alpine Type-S 10's - $150 **www.etronics.com**
Custom Box and Amp Rack - $225 shipped **that guy on the boards... FiReBrEtHa... but i never heard back from him... anyone hear from this guy in the last 4 months???**
Wiring, Fuses, Distribution Block and all that stuff $100 **local stereo shop**

That's around $1,100
You could get stuff similar to that or even better for the same price if you looked on eBay and online hard enough, then you can go buy like 100 sq feet of that RAAM mat **sp??** stuff and lay that all in ur trunk and car like i was going 2 do...
