audio help

currently my system is....well weak. a cd reciever and rockford fosgate 6x9's in the back is basically as far as it goes.

i want to get new dash speakers, and eventually an amp and a box. but for now, where should i start with the dashes?

i want a component system, but im not sure if i could do that. is the Rockford Fosgate FNQ3414 (http://www.ikesound.com/Prod_Details.asp?Prod_Id=966) a good choice? or is that the completly wrong thing?

somebody give me some ideas, and inexpensive ones at that. thanks a lot.

I don't think those components would work in the stock openings. You also have the problem of running wire to the crossovers, since I seriously doubt you would find space for them on the dash. The mounting depth in the dash is fairly shallow, especially since you would have to mount the speakers offset from center to get them both in there. Also, by mounting them in the dash locations, you are placing the speakers at very different distances from your ears, which kind of goes against the money spent on component speakers. Ideally, you want the left and right speakers to be equidistant, which is why most people install component speakers in kick panels down in front of the doors. Another solution would be to use a deck that has digital time correction, but you didn't specify which deck you are running. If you really want components, get a set of kick panels and then go with larger components (5.5 or 6.5- inch components.) Otherwise, just use a set of 4x6 coax or plate speakers. There are a lot of good-sounding ones out there, just do a search on the car audio forum. Not only that, but they will put a MUCH smaller dent in your wallet than those RF components would, freeing up money for other things.

yes freeing up money for other things is good but dont be stupid and just buy something not as good to get by because I gauruntee you that you might be disappointed and want something better later on. Therefore that would defeat the whole purpose of saving for other things. I made that mistake with my first system but hey we all learn somewhere. This time Im taking my system little by little with the best components I can find so I know I'll be happy and not waste my money on something better in a year or two. As for your question, get plate speakers tho, or go with components in custom kicks. Plate speakers act just the same as a component system just save you the money with getting custom kicks done for you. The plates wont sound as good as the others but you'll be happy. heh...alright well goodluck and dont forget...dont skimp get the best you can get and save for the good stuff. Just letting you know so you dont have to go through the learning stage like the rest of us and want something better in another year.

haha...i think i just contradicted myself a little there. Just get the plates and save the extra money...you'll be happy to save the money as well you'll be happy with the plates...there i think i saved myself. Next time I mine as well just raise my own on me. haha BTW if ya wanna compete or NEED SQ then worry about having the sound equal distances to your ears and stuff but it's not that big of a deal really.

Yeah I agree, equidistance isn't the biggest deal in the world, I was just pointing out that if you're going to spend the money on components, might as well use them to their full potential.
