need good head unit
hey, i have the pioneer deh-p6400 in my car now and i think its a great deck. my friend wants a system for his car and didnt want to spend to much, so i decided since i have a problem and im never satisfied with how loud my system is and how im always upgrading, this is a good oportunity to get rid of my subs and deck and move onto audiobahn subs. but the question is, i want a good deck that is reliable and very flashy. as you know the pioneer has the cool screen savers which is a must. so do any other brands make something with screen savers that i can get for under $300? if not im going to just go with the deh-p7400. let me knnow.vthanks.
**** the screen savers, jut get something with a great looking functional display....like Alpine...i think their most powerful headunit puts out 27 rmsx4(which is the highest i have ever seen) and askeds you to wire it stright to the fuse box with 10 awg wire b/c of all the power it pulls...lol....but i have the 7873 i think and there is no screensaver but everyone loves the way it looks. Also Alpine headunits just fit in with the car more, so many people have silver headunits in cars with black interiors....that looks gay and out of place.
But Alpine makes some of the best headunits.....just wait for a few more replys, i am sure people are going to agree with me.:hail:

There's one that has a touch-screen...that's pretty wild. i agree though, Alpine HUs are great. But if you want the screen savers, go for it

I would recommend Eclipse. I have the Eclipse 54410, I got it for $250 brand new. Although they don't have any "special" features like screen savers, any graphics, touch screens or tilting faceplate, they just have the basics. In my opinion you don't need these extras, they are just more things that could break or not work. I'll admit that they (extra features) are cool. But my CD player sounds great and that is what should matter, right?

The head with the touch screen is a Panasonic, I have it. It is the coolest looking head I've found
You can change the different colors any combination you want, and you tailor it to your tastes. It will even act like a sound meter and "dance" to the music's rhythym. The best thing though, is that it has 5 volt preouts for your amps(more is better). It has three sets of 'em. It has a neat remote with a little joystick on it, too.:lala:

I just got the Pioneer Premier dep840 tonight. WOW. Besides all of the bells and whistles, moterized face, screen savers/graphics, it sounds great. I mixed it with a Kenwood amp in the back for the subs and 6x9's and a Alpine for the front speakers and kick panels. But damn it sounds good. And I like the steering wheel remote. I was sorry to see the old Extended range system die but this unit is gonna be fun. And you only live once. Well gotta go change my sig to reflect my new toys.

I just picked up an Eclipse CD3422 head unit off Ebay for $219. I'm not looking for major power, I can add a small sub later as its got a sub pre-out. But I like Eclispes and Alpine's no nonsense approach to this. You don't need screen savers, or any unnessesary crap, just pure audio. You should be listening to your stereo, not admiring pretty pictures.
Thats all my opinion anyways. I'm sure people will disagree.
