Dual batteries w/ switch

Let's say I want to run a good system in the car eventually...but I dont want to have the car idling all the time for fear of draining the battery. Now I've heard wiring 2 batteries in parallel would just not be a good idea in general...and puts a lot of work onto the alternator. Now, what about...wiring a switch in between the two batteries. So normal driving, the alt charges only the forward battery...but when you kill the car and go to turn the system on, you flip it over to the secondary battery...is this do-able? Only problem I can imagine is...trying to juggle flipping the switch between two different batteries to keep them both charged... Just an odd idea I probably won't ever go through with..just curious!

You don't need to make any switches or anything...Buy what is called a " battery isolater " This will do exactly what you've described and you don't have to do anything but hook it all up and go. One battery charges, when charged.... the other charges, simple as that. Hope this helps??

Oh wow...awesome. I'm not gonna use it, but maybe someone else might! I got other stuff to fix first...such as, WATER PUMP! Lol....thats a necessity alright..

i was thinkin of a separate batt and alternator to run my system on. i have a pioneer 7400 2 sony 760 watt amps and 2 12" alpine type r's. i figure that way if the batt dies my car will still drive and i ditched the ac so i can add another alternator in that spot. its just figurin out how to do so

just an additional battery and an isolator should work for you.. one battery to run the car, the other to play your system--and both charged by the alternator.
