Bandpass Box For Hatch/trunk Area ??
people have asked that question before... it seems due to the irregularity of the shape of the trunk it would be very difficult to build... can it be done? absolutely, but just by a professional who knows what they're doing.... and a lot of time.

The problem with a bandpass box is that the total volume is over 2x what the same sub needs for a simple sealed box. There isn't enough real-estate back there to accomodate most bandpass configurations.

my 89 camaro had one that had been custom built to fit the hatch area but it ate up all of the space in the hatch area and proved to be a real pain to get out of the car they almost had to have assembled it in the car as it took a six foot prybar to remove it I took the subs out put them in a sealed box and was very happy with that as I had at least some room in the hatch and could remove the box to get to the spare on the side of the road if needed.

Bandpass boxes have to be tuned just right or else they sound like butt, and they require twice as much space as a normal sealed box like Jim said... I think that a custom bandpass application would be difficult to set up in a thirdgen. But I've never tried bandpass either, I've always done sealed, so....

I've tried bandpass (although never in a thirdgen). If it's a complete bandpass system that's built specifically for the sub that's in it, it can sound very good. That's about the ONLY time it sounds good. Any time you just slap a sub into a prefab box, you almost always wind up with a very, very, very narrow frequency responce which translates into a 1-note wonder that has unbelievable output at 1 frequency and is absolute crap at every other frequency.
You wouldn't believe how easy it is to sell a box like that.

My college roommate had an 89RS with a 4th order band pass box with a pair of 8's. IT WAS SICK! I worked in car audio in the early part of my career and I've never heard a pair of 8's in my entire life that hit harder than those.
That said...
The amount of work (or $$$ if you're paying someone to build it) that goes into building a band pass box is not worth the effort. Couple that with the fact that you lose range and crispness and coolness wears off quickly.
A good pair of 12's, adequately powered, in a sealed box can make it uncomfortable to sit in the car.
