Lookin for a new system, ideas?

I'm lookin to upgrade my stock speakers and Sony cd-player with a new system, including amp + 12" sub. What I'm looking for is just good clarity at reasonably high volume levels, and so that I can really feel the bass in my Primus listening. What I want to know are your opinions on good, reliable brands.

As the for the head unit, what I would like is a simple, CD-R/RW playing HU without a flipdown face, I'm not a big fan of those (The Sony I have now is that way). And I don't need or really care for flashy graphics or anything like that. Any suggestions?

As for the speakers, I guess it's pretty obvious, I'm lookin for 2 new 6x9s and 2 4x6s. What brands are good? Also, what is the difference between 2-way, 3-way, and 4-way speakers?

And the amp, what amperage should I be lookin for? And brands?

For the sub, I've seen a lot of praise for the Kicker comps or whatever, so I think I'd go with them, unless there are other suggestions.

Sorry for the long post guys!

Ok, I just did some research with looking through this board, looking on other sites, and looking through Crutchfield.com, and I've pretty much answered all the questions I asked above by myself. I think the system I'm goin with now is a Pioneer HU (DEH-1400), 4x6s (I want to get the TS-A4667s, but Crutchfield says they won't fit??? My other option are the TS-G4647s) and 6x9s (TS-A6985), a Kicker amp (KX300.2) and a Kicker CompVR, 12" 2-ohm sub (01C12VR2).

I do still have one question though, and that is that the Pioneer HU I like, the DEH-1400, from what I can tell the most basic HU model (and the one I like the most), has preamp outputs, but they are not specified as subwoofer preamp outputs. Since all I'll be using an external amplifier for will be a sub, is this a bad thing? Or does it not really matter?

you may need a crossover if the amp doesn`t already have one built in but other than that it makes no difference

On Crutchfield's site (I hope that works), it says this amp has a "built-in variable crossover lets you tailor the amp's output for different applications..." and "high-pass/low-pass crossover (variable 50-200 Hz, 12 dB per octave)." I assume this is what you mean?

Altho I have the flip down face model DEH-P8400MP you don't want I did look at the 1400 model first and it is a good solid, low cost model that will serve your needs. And you can run your subs from those pre outputs. You should be okay.
