Some speakers come with their own wires that have the "idiot prongs" on them. In other words, the wires will only fit a certain way.
Other than that, just put the leads on each way and go with the best sound.

and for the rest, use a 9 volt battery. If the + of the battery is on the + of the speaker, the speaker cone will move up. If it's backwards, it'll move down. I've found this useful, especially when working with cheap aftermarket speakers. More than once I've foudn them to be labeled incorrectly.

that method is also helpful if all of your wires are the same color and you cant remember which pair goes to which speaker. if you want to just figure this out, you can take the battery off your cordless screwdriver and use the 2 prongs on it. if you do this, though, i would not suggest keeping the wire touching for more than a second because it could blow the speaker. its not all that likely, but still very possible. this is kinda off the subject but i thought ide throw that in there in case someone got in that situation.
