cool idea for subs in backseat!!

i was thinking, maybe someone could take out thier back seats entirely, and put a sub wehre you put your a$$. like lay a board across it and cut a hole. you would obvioulsy have to do some precision cutting to make it look flush, but that would be MEAN!!! and then put your amp where you would normally lay back!

Rate it on a scale of 1 being terrible, and 5 being, im going to go do it now.

i voted three..

maybe you could leave your seats in, and just fold the top down and mount the box onto the back of the seat.

or some how put in a locking system so the box wont slide around, and when you have more people you need to drive you can unlock it and put it in the back? as long as it isnt to big i guess.

not to burst your bubble or anything, but I've seen pictures of it done around here somewhere....

and if you do do it, take your back seat out, I think it would look kinda tacky having the seat folded down "permanently" with a box on top of it....

personally i think it looks gay in a daily driver. if you are running a competition spl car or something, then i could justify doing it.. but otherwise it just looks tacky to me.

i would probably only drive it on weekends and holidays, no point really in driving it to work every day, i have a chevette for that.. lol unless you still consider that a daily driver.

I had two 12" subs behind the front seats. I took out the back rest, and put the box on top of the bottom part ot the seat, Had to make a small cut out for the hump. Then I cut the front of the box at the same angle of the back of the front seats (matched perfectly) But the face of subs were not right behind the seats, i pushed them into the box about 6 inches. I have pics at home, If I remember I'll post later tonight.

I have made may boxes so it was easy for me, but if you've never done it before, I'll want to do alot of meassureing and plan drawing, i got mine so perfect that the back corners of the box sat on the brackets that hold the backrest in.

I took the messurments off my box, I is carpeted so they are not exact, but they should be within the 1/4 inch. Any queztions let me know, Also I take no responsibility if you make this box and it doesnt fit. Worked great in my car though. I made this for two Rockford 12" XLC's, I think the inside volume for each sub is just over 1.5 cubic feet.

Here ya go

hmmm....

There is a enough room there to fit 3 12's or perhaps 4 10's with a setup like that. 4 10's would be killer. The airspace is not a problem it's just the width of the box that could be a problem. you could, with 10's pu them high /low as they sit in the box, you know like one 3-4 inches lower than the one beside it, that way you have enough space across the face of the box.

You know, you just off-set the subs ( not aligned next to each other) in order to mount them closer to each other. It would be best to do with tens because of the space issue.

If you were planning on getting 2 more tens, then do it! It'll rock!! Just remember that if you are going to do this, sealed is really your only option, with 2 divided chambers and 2 10's per chamber.

Hey JawzForLife: What cubic foot measurement did you come up with ?? I don't feel like doing the math.

I think it is a total of just over 3 cubic feet, I could be wrong, but that is the rought est I came up with, with the "outside" mesurements. If that is too big of a volume you can make you dividers in the box bigger to take up more space.

Ok, I did the math and used the inside measurements. It's right around 3 cubic feet, a little less like 2.94 or so. with a divider it'll drop to 2.85 cubic feet.

So that's 1.43 cubic feet per set of 10's which is plenty. That means you can use a 10 that requires anywhere between a minimum of .55 and .85 cubic feet. That's not hard to find for a 10.

84 Z-28: What 10's do you have now?
