Stock tapeplayer playing fast...

I got the stock tapeplayer in my IROC and it plays tapes too fast (fast as in "chipmunkish"). Any ideas? Besides losing the tapeplayer of course

Sounds like the pinch roller is dirty/slick. It keeps tension on the tape to make it play at the speed it's supposed to. If it's dirty, it may not be holding the tape and the 'pulling' reel will continue as if it's on FF.

It's very similar to a fuel pressure regulator on EFI going out. The fuel would just fly by the injectors and return to the tank too fast. Know what I mean?

Try a tape that's made to clean a cassette player. If that doesn't work, you could take it apart and clean it with rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. If you have an "Auto Reverse" player, you'll have two pinch rollers to clean.

They're the big rubber wheels that move over to the metal pins when a tape is played. Just watch how a Walkman, or an old 70's style tape recorder works and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Alrighty, thanx. I already tried a cleaning tape a while ago, so I'll pull it out and clean it mysylf.
