Power Wiring

My friend installed an AMP and sub woofers? He also added caps. When he ran it really high volume, it had a meltdown. The cap box fried...... i was looking at his wiring and noticed all of the positive leads coming off battery (large wires #4s) with fuses. On the negative terminal all I saw was the original Acura ground strap.

Is this normal? Isn't the battery wiring supposed to be balanced? Same number/size/capacity from positive and negative?

Before meltdown, it shook windows in house.

You should have the same size wires going in and out of the amp but not the battery. If you have a 4awg power wire feeding the amp, you should have a 4awg or bigger ground coming from the amp to the chassis. Its a good idea to change your ground wire on you battery that connects to the chassis but it won't fry your system. Also you should upgrade your wiring from your alternator. It sounds to me like he hooked the cap up backwards. Pos to neg and vice versa.
