140 amp alternator
Now i have heard you could put one in but would i have to get new wiring or just stick it in there? Also where could i get one
You can get one out of a 1994 transport minivan with the 3.8L engine and rear A/C. You'll need the GM adapter harness to go from the stock 2 wire setup to the 4 prong plug on the new alt (GM part # 12083462 costs about $15). You should be able to bolt it right in, but I'm not positive since I did this swap on my monte and not on an F-body. When I put it in my car I made a new upper bracket using spherical rod ends and an aluminum turnbuckle. I also added an aftermarket regulator to give me 160amp capability.
Ohio Generator makes a 140 amp alt for 3rd Gen. F bodies. I got a quote for about $425 for it from a web site called amp man. If you go to their site, there is a form that you have to fill out that tells them what all equipment you have in your car and what kind of car you have. A few days later they will reply to you with suggestions on what size alternator you need. The one they had for me was a straight bolt on. You do need to upgrade your stock wiring. I upgraded to 4awg even with my stock alternator.
