its hard to say which one is better. both of those headunits are nice. im sure both will be dependable whichever you choose, which makes it more of a matter of which has the features that you want, which looks the best, and which is the one you want to pay for. good luck.
I noticed the alpine has a seperate volume control for the subs, my realy old sony had that, it was a nice feature.
Personally, I hate a bunch of flashy lights on on unit, I would pick the alpine.

My vote is for the Alpine. I have the CDA-7894 and I love it. I have had for about 8 months and had no problems. It has ALOT of features on it. I use alot of them and they really help to fine tune the sound that you are looking for. There are so many that half the time I have to get the manual out. LoL
I have never used a Kenwood. I have used Alpine stereos, but never will again. I have had bad experiences with my last 2 head units. Terrible skipping problem...I was also doing competition but for every day normal listening it might not be that big of a deal. I did notice even when driving they had a tendency to skip quite a bit.
My vote is for Panasonic.

hey Polishdevil, too bad I'm at school right now cause I know you live close to me, I'd let you check out my 7894. It's a great HU and I love it! Tons of features that are useful. You can even delay the timing of each speaker to account for the different distances they are from you. Also I like the looks of it, it looks great lit up at night. I paid $420 for mine but thats because my old JVC broke and I needed a new HU asap. I had my mind made up on the Alpine, and I didnt want to wait for it from Crutchfield. Everywhere around here was out of stock, and I finally found a place that had it in Keyport and they wanted $420 for it. A bit higher than everyone else but I was willing to pay for it. LOL I was so excited that I left the place, drove down 35 until I found a parking lot to pull into and I installed it right there. That was the beginning of September and it's been working great since then.

Alpine. They are killer products with only the best components inside for the price of other brands. Notice they don't NEED ad's all over the place to sell. Brands like JL Audio, Rockford, Kicker, Alpine, and Pioneer are the only audio products I trust. I used to like the panisonic head units but that soon changed after getting an Alpine. I had 3 other friends with Alpines so it was a no brainer.
