Blew out my 4x6's
Blew out my 4x6's
I bought a set of 4x6 pioneers and blew them out. How come my crappy stock 4x6'ds that came in my truck can last for years, but my $75 aftermarket speakers never last??

you need to put caps (capacitors) on the speaker wires going to your 4x6's. The right caps act as a high pass filter, thus no bass below "x" Hz gets through.. They are cheap crossovers. I am just building my stereo now. I am putting a real nice set of Kicker Components 4" (round) in. They come with tweeters and nice crossovers (no need for caps). Anyway.. $260cdn.. And no... they don't run off deck power
. Zapco AG200 for now.
Anyway.. get another set. I like round over oval... no scientific reason. though I think round sound tighter and better. Tell your local car audio shop what you are doing and get some caps from them.. This will mean no bass up front but good rear speakers or combo with subs, your good to go.
edit: . by caps I don't mean 1Farad :sillylol: were talking uF (10^-6 F)

because, while stock speakers sound like crap, they are often meant to take more distortion/clipping/abuse than aftermarket. older stock decks were horrible at higher volumes, so they had to make speakers that wouldnt blow up when they were beat up.

I usally fad most of the sound to the back, But when I have the t-tops off I need the front speaker sound. I I'm running them of a Rockford 9300 mp3 deck. I have the speakers under warrenty So I can easly get another set for free. But where do I get these caps from so I dont have to get another set??
Thanks, Jawz
