Fiberglassing tutorial

hey everyone -- i check this board every once in a while but i dont own a thirdgen, but i am good friends with a member here who does-- anyway, i wrote up this fiberglass tutorial because everyone is always looking for glass work, and its very simple, just tedious--so i wrote it up as best as i could, maybe this will help some1 or give them ideas... this glass job was done in a cougar but it applies to any car... if u have any questions/comments you can email me @ cas1383@njit.edu or get me at focaljet.com ICE forums

Hey! Those are radioshack subs! lol. I have a friend who had 2. they didnt sound half bad at all for being cheaper than the 2 candy bars we bought on the way to radioshack! lol. Thats a great article, cant wait till its done, I might build me a fiberglass box afterall.

Chris, fantastic! My MECP buddy told me about using T-shirts and trim rings a long time ago; never saw a picture of it being done, though. Very cool!! Can't wait to see the finished results!

here's another link but it has no description just pics buts itsa different way at looking at it. Like chris said its time consuming i've only made 1 fiberglass box for my buddy and didnt turn out right, i figured that since he's trying to rush something i never did before on his damn import. When making the sub rings make the top one at least 3/16- 1/4 inch bigger than the outside of your subs or you cannot get them to go in, and the bottom is fine just to mount the screws to since the fleece shouldnt go in that far. Another prob we had was i didnt have a fiberglass roller (2nd link) to smooth out the fiber glass so sanding was a huge PITA. Get a good router No crapsman and make a circle jig for the sub rings or you can use a jigsaw with a steady hand. Get the rollers for sure they compact the fiberglass mat/cloth removing any air bubbles and compresses the layers together as well for a stonger finished box, also get a gallon of acetone to clean off the rollers and brushes and any spills you have the stuff works great. Also use something like fleece not a t-shirt, the fleece will strech better forming the curves alot easier than a t-shirt. Basically the t-shirt is harder to work with since you strech it alot to get the shape that you want then staple it into place. The fleece is only like 5 bucks a yard and my box i figure only 2 yards will do it so not much but will work alot better.
