Scanner to Car Speakers

I want to tap in my scanner so I can get to hear it on my car speakers, i know they sell kits where you can plug in the adapter (it's like the one used for mini headphones) to the radio, but my head unit is too old. Is there a way to tap into the head unit right now, i dont want to buy a new one.

Assuming you have a cassette:

If your scanner has a headphone jack connection, get one of those adapters that connects a portable CD player output to a cassette head and that should do the trick.

If your headunit has line in rca jacks you could connect the scanner there using the approprite cable.

don't have either, its a kenwood cd player, an older version, so it doesn't have input rcas, only output and they go to my amp to my sub. the version of the kenwood doesn't support the input adapter either.

or you can use an fm modulator. they plug in between your antenna and your deck.

Yeah, for a scanner an FM modulator would be fine. The price is kinda crappy. Crutchfield carries the Clarion FM modulator for about $80 Don't go thinking that you can justify the price by trying to use it for something else down the line like a portable MP3 or DVD player though... The sound quality just won't cut it.
