alpine is wonderful. i never had a problem with the kenwood, so if your going for something on a budget go for the kenwood. the decks do tend to skip in the cold weather... untill they get warmed up

and also like i said before sony is IMO good enough for what you pay for it, yeah everything is over rated (wattage wise and rms) but oh well most people who buy the stuff just don't want to spend the money on the greater quality stuff like myself, and also the other main reason i bought is because i drove down paid for it there picked it up and had it all installed in 1 afternoon, and i don't need the "shake sh*t off the shelve" bass hell the car would probably fall apart if i did! but the point i'm making its good enough for the average joe

strongly agree.

Z i agree with you on the bass topic. i really cant stand too much. drowns out the rest of the music. i had a 2x 12s in my GTA and my iroc and i pulled the mout after 2 weeks. gave me serious headaches to top it all off. really no need for it

Problem is the average Joe read a thread like this and thinks sony isnt all that bad, goes out and spends his $ on some sony crap and then when he hears a REAL quality system he kicks himself in the *** for waisting his $ on that junk he bought.

Sony has gone down the toliet lately.

BTW if anyone is on their car and they dont want alot of bass for whatever reason, most head units have a bass control of some sort that lets you adjust the bass level. Some (like mine) Have seperate crossover controls for the front amp (full range speakers mid bass etc and rear or sub. So when im driving by myself i adjust it so it has alot of bass but if i have a child in the car i adjust the rear xover so the sub isnt playing.

Yes, I know, I have Sony and I like it. So ban me or whatever, okay?
More to the point: I wouldn't touch Sony headunits with a 100' pole. If they are anything like the Sony home shelf systems, the have NO bass and high distortion. I have an Eclipse CD-3402 that was bought last year at one of the more expensive stores in this area for $170 not including tax, and I like it. The unit was not the lowest quality or priced Eclipse in the store but I like it better than the stock unit. Since I have only heard r!cer crap cars booming down the street and I don't know what they have compared to my stock crap, I can't rate my system, but those who know it will say it sucks since I have "low-end" speakers and sub/amp combo (Yes, Sony 4x6" and 12" sub and my Legacy 6x9"s, of which are soon to go for another set of Sony speakers when I have the time and the engine running). Yes, I like Sony, mostly because I am not looking for serious competition ready sound, and that I have a color scheme I am going to stick to no matter what. I have never seen Volfenhags that I could afford, and those are the only other speakers (and subs) that I know of that are red in color.

So the moral here is that I completely agree with those who say Sony HU's are crap. But don't discount their speakers if you are on a budget and are looking for SOME improvement over the Delco crap that was there first.

Well, the main place to get them should tell you how great they are... Wal*Mart.

You will never see that stuff in a Tweeter or a car audio shop (a good one!)

I'm sure some people love their stuff and swear by it, and that's ok. If you like how it sounds, more power to you. BUT seems like the most of us do NOT like how it sounds, and would just like to let everyone who is contemplating it to just avoid it.

i have a decent pioneer setup HU 4x6s and premier 6x9s. its not the loudest but its one of the clearest sounds out of most of my friends , except this one dude who has a bad *** PA system pretty much. I go for sound quality and not so much thump.
