'83 Trans Am Factory Stereo Wiring Harness
1983 Trans Am
Hello all!
I am helping my son put back together this T/A. The factory stereo is missing as is the harness connector. So I have a lot of loose mystery wires and I want to reconnect them to another stereo.
I have the Pontiac shop manual as well as a Haynes book, and neither have a complete electrical schematic. I could figure it out if I wanted to take the additional time to test and trace out the wires................
But,
If someone had the schematic, and could just give me the wire colors and their functions, only as it pertains to the stereo itself and speakers, then I would be exceptionally pleased.
Thank you in advance!
Steve

a simple search on the web would yield your mystery wires.. 1978 to current chev wires are the same for stereos. But since I already did that for my truck, here ya go.. courtesy of www.streetdreams.com/wires

to double check. you should meter those wires.. for instance the yellow wire should have 12volts all the time.. the red, only when key turned on or back.. the speakers, you can take a 9volt bat or whatever and touch one end to one of the wires and strike the other against the supposed other wire and the speaker should grunt. the gnd should have continuity to another gnd.. say casing on ant wire. the ant wire.. well if you don't have a power ant don't worry.. if you do.. put the yellow to the blue.. ant should go up...then you know if it works. the oranges.. you should have power when lights on.... would be in your best interest to get a connector off another car.. solder the wires up and heat shrink/tape and then get the proper $5 connector that converts your oem connectors to wire pigtails... thus you wouldn't have to hack your wires each time you pull the deck..

if your wires are long enough, just hardwire it in. also, bare in mind that what thirim was saying, he was refering to the aftermarket wire colors not the color of the wires from your car. in this case orange is a 12 v constant, yellow in accesory, etc. good luck.

MISSION ........NOT SO IMPOSSIBLE!
Hi Thirim & Tamu130;
Thank you for the input and the VALUABLE INFORMATION!!!!
The stereo is hooked up and is playing. All is good in that neck of the woods. I guess you can find out almost anything if you surf the web long enough and ask the right questions.
This site is really good and i know i will have more questions.....perhaps eventually I will be able to provide the answers!!!
Thanks again and have a GREAT weekend!!
