Remote Start on my carbed beast?

I recently got off of ebay a Viper 550 ESP alarm for 160 bucks. Good alarm with remote start. It says on the box that the remote start module is only for automatics with fuel injection. My car is auto but is 4bbl carbed. What would happen if I put this on my car? I may not have them put the remote start module but I want to know if anybody has put remote start on their carbed 3rd gens and if their any horror stories about it? If its not good to use then its cool I can have it put in but i wont use it. Thanks in advance.

it is possible, but your engine pretty much has to start and idle perfect. not necessarilly perfect but very well. im guessing, though, that if it starts and idles well and is computer controlled, you should have no problems. try it and see, it wont hurt to have it.

Let us know how it works. I figured it would only work with my car when it is warmed up because that is the only time it starts easily without touching the gas

it would be basically the same thing as turning the key without pumping the gas pedal first (or at all). if your car does start like this, then it should work, but if it doesn't, then (obviously) it won't start by remote.

How would you set the choke by remote? A little electric motor? A lot more skill than I have.

maybe not for the morning start up when the engine is the coldest but im hoping it would work say when i get offa work or run an errand and im heading back to my car...basically after the engine has ran and warmed up. I'll fill you guys in as soon as I get it hooked up (wont be for a few weeks).

You could just rig it up to have a manual choke and make sure you close it when you get out for the night. i guess that could work.

The installer at one of the shops I worked at used to install remote starts on carbed cars once in a while. I saw the install he did on a monte SS. It was pretty simple. He mounted a solenoid near the throttle bracket that would push the throttle when activated, then automatically retract upon loss of power. Before starting the car, he pushed the remote button that activated the solenoid twice, then pushed the remote start. It worked like a champ. I believe he also wired a relay to prevent the solenoid from getting power while the ignition was on, but while it was in remote-start mode, he could rev the car from the remote control.

that is done cuz with holley cards (and other carbs for that fact) there is a high idle when you first start it to help it warm up and after like 5mins you have to hit the gas for it to get out of high idle.

An IAC control should work. It kicks the idle up a touch when you turn the A/C on.

I have one on my 1983 C10 (IAC, not remote start ). It's like Jim said, and it has the power to actually move the throttle.

It's done because most carb'd cars need a shot of gas or 2 before they will start when cold.

One of Murphy's laws states that the more complex a machine gets, the more things can break down: It's a cool toy but it'll drive you nuts when it starts failing.
