Diamond-Plated Metal Sub Enclosier!

Hi people, it's been a while since i posted on this forum but i was wondering, does anyone have a custom sub hatch box that they covered with diamond-plated metal. If you don't know what i'm talking about, i'm talking about that metal pattern like the big toolboxes you see on the back of peoples trucks, that pattern chromed and stuff. I think i've seen some boxes like that before but it would look really sweet in a Camaro/Firebird hatch hole. Please post pics if you have some, or let me know alittle more about diamond-plated material. Thanks

you can't purchase a pre-made a sub box out of metal cause it would require welding to make it and most stereo places do not have wealders to do that. one could be custom made i supose but one would have to be a good wealder to get a perfect seal. also, this not be verry cost effective.
the matereal may cost you more then a premade MDF sub box AND you would still need to build it. also, it would rattle on everything!!!

on a lighter note.. .if you do make one it will KICK *** and be the coolest looking sub box EVER!!!!! if money and time are no option and you can weld as good as i can i would say go for it... post pics for all to see

What you want to do is make a cover for the box out of diamond plate. Make the box out of MDF. We did a cover like this for a box in a SUV. It was a round box that dropped into the spare tire well. We had the plate cut for use; it was like 23” diameter with a 12” hole in the center and was made out of aluminum diamond plate. After it was cut we polished the crap out of it. The box was 20” in diameter so there was some over hang, with the box flush with the floor the overlap covered the small gap around the box and the diamond plate just rested on the carpet. We put the plate on the box with a LOT of sealant so it wouldn’t rattle. Then we used some sealant around the hole for the sub and dropped it in and screwed it down. Looked tough as $hit. You have to be careful around the sub, because the demons stick up about and 1/8 of an inch so it tough to sell the sub in the box, but it can be done.

if the box was only made of metal, i would imagine it would resonate something fierce.

“why not make an MDF box and diamond plate it?”
That sounds familiar. I don’t think you would want to diamond plate the whole box, diamond plate can get expensive, and heavy.
