Help with Audio in Camaro
Hi everyone! I recently bought a '91 Camaro, and everything is perfect except for the stereo. It has the factory tape deck and the speakers are totally blown. Now, I don't know anything about car audio, but the only thing I want to do is install an MP3 player and replace the factory speakers with some decent aftermarket ones.
My question is if I install a Kenwood receiver - something like this one:
Crutchfield.com Kenwood Receiver
Then install six 2-way Kenwood speakers to replace the blown ones, I should have a decent sounding stereo, correct?
Or am I totally off the mark?

i personally like the pioneer line of decks. granted there are many more out there that are better but i really love mine. great looks accompanied by great performance. heres a little hint though, do some research on other places to buy stuff. crutchfield tends to be high on price.

I went with something similar and I don't have any big complaints at all on the sound.
-Kenwood MP-522 (love it)
MP3 is definitely the way to go. I didn't think I'd use it much, but I can't imagine going from 170 songs a disc back to 12. Don't think I've turned the radio on in 4 months
-Infinity 4652 4x6's in the front
-Infinity 6952 6x9's in the rear
I'm no expert on speakers and don't have much to compare with, but I'm happy with the Infinity's.
Two quick pieces of advice on speakers though...1) If you can, put em in yourself...or at least bribe a friend who knows what he's doing with a couple cases of beer. I got completely ripped on the installation, it cost me almost as much as the speakers did. 2) Pay the extra $20 or so and get yourself the warranty that lets you get a free replacement if you blow them. I had mine in for a month when I went on a road trip with the tops off...tough to read the Kenwood in the sunlight, I thought the volume was at around 25 and it turned out to be 35.
All in all, my setup came to about $700 Canadian (little over $500 US). I'd recommend it.

I would stay away from the 222, a lot of loading problems with that model. I love the Kenwood stuff but would go for the 522 or better if the budget will let you.
Stereo
i personally like the Kenwood line of receivers always had them and no problems. i currently have the kenwood KDC-X969, and a pair of Rockford Fosgate component setup with these FNP2614 , and some of these Full range FRC4369 , and a custom sub hatch back sub box with a set of JLAudio 2 12" W3's. and a 4 channnel old school Kenwood amp. and a newer model JL audio amp for the subs. and it all works out Beautiful.
Hope this helps.

I have the KDC 217 in my 84 Z and I love it. I also have a kenwood amp( cant remeber the type) and a set of pyle speakers(pretty good ). You will have a decent sounding system with the setup you described. I drove around with no sub for a while and the speakers still sounded goo even without the extra " bump in the trunk".

Ok i just installed a Pioneer DEH-P47DH. Not only is this a special fit (for the Gm cars) but it puts out some of the best sound i have ever heard. Look on e bay for it .... i got mine for $110 and it was worth every penny!!!!! Alpine 3 way 6x9 are good.

i will back up others views here.
The pioneer decks are awesome! Got one in my camaro, I love its custom EQ selections witht eh tap of a button.
The infinity's reference 6 x 9's i have will ring your pecker off and have decent bass (although i tuned out most the low through the deck) and also I don't have an amp pushing them, and they sound great.
When i got my s-10, I knew what i wanted, the infinity 9603i 6 x 9's in boxes.
I got alpine SPS-460A 4 x 6's in the dash. And of course a pioneer cd player, both vehicles can dish out some heavy highs

Re: Stereo
I have aquired a pair of RF FNP2614 component speakers, just wondering where and how you installed them. I have an 1987 GTA. I was hopeing to install 6.5 round in the dash and the tweets where the vents are on the dash. Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with Audio in Camaro
kenwood in my opinion is far better than pioneer dollar for dollar. even the lower end kenwood from best buy has great sound and features. but i recommend getting the kenwood with the inputs in the front.

Re: Stereo
Remove the dashpad and check the mounting depth on the driver side. On my 87 TA it was pretty shallow.
