My car has Sony Xplod 6x9 3-way speakers installed and they make a popping noise whenever the radio is on. At very low volume they work fine, but anything higher sounds like a bloody train wreck. I've heard that if the car came from the factory with a Bose system that the speakers cannot be replaced with just any aftermarket speakers.

So my question is, how would I know if the car came with a Bose system if the original speakers are long gone (removed by the previous owner)?

I do have the factory cassette deck, but I haven't seen anything on it that would indicate what sort of system the car originally had.

 

take off one of your kickpanels
see if there is a speaker behind it

if that fails, check the rear hatch. if you have a locking cover, i believe you have / had the speakers at one time

i don't think you could order the locking cover without the bose setup.

Well I finally removed the dash and saw it still had the factory delco speakers....so fortunately for me there's no Bose system. I shoulda done that in the first place!

I think I've pinpointed my problem now - the receiver.

 

i hurd nothing but bad stuff about sony's stuff. but i dont know.
