Door vent rattle
I washing my car w/ the radio on when I hear but the most annoying sound; a rattle comming from the vent in the door jam. I took the vent off and the only thing I see that could be making the noise is the cloth inner cover. Before I take the cloth off, could someone who has had this problem confirm the source of this noise? Thanks

Could it be the speaker itself rattling? Turn the radio off and see what happens.

I thought this too.........but I was wrong. I took the vents out and still had the rattle or vibration(whichever you want to call it) and finally found the culprit. It was the top part of the inside door trim, so I took some clear silicone and applied a small amount under the trim and let it dry, rattle gone.

prolly is the vent
I had the same exact problem, on the passenger side, my amplified 6x9's were just pushing too much air for these vents, so I pulled em out, sound went away completely, some day I hope to fix it for good, but a philips screwdriver was my solution for now. Also my door trim rattles too, I wonder how easy it is to take off and reconnect? What makes it rattle, are the connectors broken, my door fabric is coming out from under, I try to shove back in with quarters but comes out after a few door slams....

this is the easyest problem to fix. Get some spray adhesive, take a peice of printing paper, glue it to the back of that vent and the rattling goes by by. Trust mei did it and it was gone.

basically you are just limiting the air flow with the paper so those plastic fins don't vibrate?
also, has anyone ever tried cutting the sail panels so that the tweeters on the 6x9's fit? I just have my sail panels removed because my 4 way blaupunkts are enormous, I even had to use the spacer it came with.

On my old car I cut the paper pieces out and put some small cloth pads inbetween the metal and the plastic. This worked great. In my newer car I was feeling lazy and just took em out...this worked even better!

ok here are the pics
alright you might notice a black silicone sealant and that was too add protection from the vent now raddeling from the pressure not being released. It helps a whole bunch.

The vents in the door jambs are to release air pressure inside the car when the doors are slammed shut. They are not for ventilation. Becare about blocking them off. If your car is not air tight it will not make that much difference. The air will come out somewhere. Just my 2 cents.

well uh you need to check your vents again becuase thewy are one direction only, air can only come out of the side of the car, not go in. So your theory is wrong, its not to relieve pressure when the door is slammed shut. Its to let air that somehow got into the car out, which would probrably be from the speakers, but maybe not, then maybe from air resistance.

Hello- that is what I said, lets air pressure inside the vehicle cabin out. Have you ever shut a door, the door did not close so you cracked the window to let the air pressure inside the vehicle out. Just sharing some info, lighten up with the check my theory stuff.

ok wait, we are not driving air craft these cars are not the least air tight. I have never shut the door and hnad to open the window to let out pressure. How do you think a car sinks when in water, if it were air tight water couldn't get in either.

I dont remember talking about aircraft or sinking cars. The vent is to release air pressure in the car. If you dont believe me go ask somebody- honestly I dont care. Its not a good idea to block the vents off, they are there for a reason. I am done with this. Go get a phillips screwdriver, take out your vent look at it and figure it out for yourself.

well my car may not be air tight but it's pretty close. when i shut the door, all windows/doors/hatches closed, i feel a great amount of air around the rear of the door/window as i close it.

Well its completely obvious that the vents are to let the pressure out of the cabin when the doors are being closed, considering every car I have ever been in has had these vents.
I wonder if by simply cutting off the paper on the inside of the vent will fix it, I think that's the only thing making the annoying sound. That way air can still flow through the vents. If you block the vents it may not harm anything, but if you car is sealed well enough then it could put stress on weatherstripping and windows.
Just curious, why did you choose to put glass on the vent, instead of just removing the paper, or putting on plastic or metal?
also I noticed the speakers sounded a lot better with the vent removed, more air flow I guess, it probably depends on how air-tight the little compartment the 6x9's fits in.

yeah on mine i took the entire panel off and hot glued that enclosure for the 6x9s to the metal fo the car, and it dind't stop anything at all. something else is the reason but that paper isn't exactly air tight so air can still move through, but not at an accerated rate. thats why i used paper.
oh yeah found out today that new new camaro is coming in fall 2003 - 2004. The3 reason they stoppoed it is becuase there is alimit on how long a platform can be used, the limit is 10 years. The 4th gen was being made fopr 10 years. GM wanted everyone to think that sales were low so they could make profit from what they had left. Well they just hadn't decided on which platform to use.
got the info from here

two of those cars look pretty good, the ones that look like corvettes with a different nose...
what they should REALLY do is make the new camaros look very similar to the thirdgens, and drop in that 400hp motor, some HID headlights, and some t-tops or drop top

I wonder if those are shaved door handles? How do you get in that sucker? I've considered doing that and getting door poppers, but man that's expensive

hummm.... I saw that in a car mag. I should find that mag, scan it and put it in the apperance and detailing section. I dont mind the design.
RATTLES!!! There are a few rattles in my car, alot of them being the screws that hold the 6x9s. Those holes have had it like a hookers ***** out there on the corner, just loose as all *** lol well.. my fix, use a biger screw. Think I'll put some size 10" screws in there lol That should hold. There are 7 or 8s in there right now.

Heh, I used bigger screws too, I just found some self-tapping screws at ACE hardware and dug through that insulation... never ever rattle... I had to tighten the screws on my t-tops and I need to replace that back roof panel. Does anyone know what that's called? Goes over the 6x9's in the roof? Previous owner smoked crack or something.
