Got new subs now I need an amp...help

here are the specs on my audiobahn 12" flame excursion subs,

12" Single Voice Coil Subwoofer
550W RMS / 1100W Peak Power Per Sub
1100W RMS / 2200W Peak Power Per Pair
4Ù Voice Coil
Protective Chrome Finish
2" Voice Coil
2Ù, 8Ù, or Stereo 4Ù Operation
80oz. Magnet Structure
PHAT 2” Foam Surround For Linear Cone Travel
26-1kHz Frequency Response
92.8dB Sensitivity

I am kinda new to the stereo seen so what I need help on is chosing an amp. I need an amp that will put out 550 Rms on 2 channels for a total of 1100 RMS. Or should I get an amp that has 2200 watts on two channels. I am confused So if anyone can help me it would be appreciated.

Check out this site http://jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html

I think they have a pretty good pics on how to wire up DVC and SVC.

Here's the quick info off the page:

2 SVC drivers with Voice Coils in Parallel
Important: Do not implement any wiring scheme not seen here, including but not limited to series connections between drivers. For more information on why, please consult the DVC FAQ.
3 Ohm Subwoofer: 1.5 Ohms
4 Ohm Subwoofers: 2 Ohms
8 Ohm Subwoofers: 4 Ohms
12 Ohm Subwoofers: 6 Ohms

So if you had 4 ohm subs you could run both down to 2 ohms and slap a nice amp on them that puts out 1k+ at 2 ohms. So you could just use one amp and power both the subs. Does that help out any?

yeah that helps out some. So I would need an amp that has 1 channel and 550rms and just run them like that or would I need one that goes up to 1100 rms. I am confused.

If you ran them like in the picture you could get an amp that pushes out 1000 to 1200 rms at 2 ohms. It would be a mono amp since the way you're wiring the subs the amps actually thinks it pushing a 2 ohm sub... when really it's pushing 2 4 ohm subs.

Those JL 1000.1s are kind of expensive. The amps are just what brand you like. Just don't be fool'd by cheap walmart amps or sony's. They can say they put out so much watts when they might put out less.

Those JL 1000.1 go for up to around 700 bucks a piece on ebay. That's a lot course there nice amps putting out a lot of power at higher ohms. You might take a look at some other brands though, JBL bp1200.1 (I bought 2 of these brand new shipped for 560 bucks!). I also hear autotek makes some decent amps.

2 x 500 Watts RMS at 4 Ohms
2 x 1000 Watts Max at 4 Ohms
1 x 2000 Watts Max at 4 Ohms Bridged
2 x 800 Watts at 2 Ohms
Electronic Crossover Network
Bass Boost Circuit
Bridgeable at 4 Ohms
2 Ohms Stereo Stable
Tri-Mode Capable
Gold RCA Inputs
Line Outs For Left & Right Channels.
Power & Protection LED Indicators
Advanced Protection Circuitry
Soft Turn On/Off
Remote Control Bass Booster
Frequency Response: 15 Hz - 35 kHz

This one is a legacy 2 channel amp

2 Channel Amplification
2 x 1200 Watts Output
1 x 2400 Watts Bridged Output
2400 Watts Total Output
Polished Chrome Finish w/Plexiglass Panel
Remote Control Bass Boost (0-+1808 @ 60Hz)
Fully Adjustable Electronic X-over Network
Soft Turn On/Off Circuit
2 Ohm Stereo Stable Bridgeable Into 4 Ohms
MOSFET PWM Power Supplies
Variable Gain Control
Hi/Low Level Inputs
Power On LED Indicator
LED Protection Indicator
Dimensions: 10.4 W x 2.6 H x 19 L
Weight: 16.55lb

This one would max the subs out on 2 channels and its not priced high at all. But then again the other one listed the RMS this one doesn't.

I do not know to much about the lanzar amps so I can't really help ya there. I do know you get what you pay for in amps. It all just comes back to you're not gonna get something for nothing. Some of the cheaper amps don't have features that the more expensive ones have. Like the JBL 1200.1 they don't have sub sonic filters but when you figure there only 260 bucks for one. Most of us can see past the small stuff. It all comes back to what kind of features you're willing to pay for.

Try doing some searchs on the car audio section. I think you should beable to find a lot of feedback on different amps. Also I recommend you do research (reading reviews) before you buy one. That's always a good way to see what there like since people use them for awhile and they'll clue in if they've had problems. Just go to google and do a Car Audio Review search it should come up with plenty of sites.

Hey thanks. I have figured it out thanks to you. I take an amp with a 1100watt rms x 1 at 2 ohms and I will be at my maxx for the subs right. I went up and talked to the local audio shop and he pointed me toward a rockford fosgate 1000rms x 1 at 2 ohm amp for $490 but i found it on ebay brand new for $250.

Yeah 2 ohm power at 1000 watts rms will be enough to push both subs. One step closer to getting them installed.

I can't get the link to pull up the page. But if your talk about the Pyramid one I doubt there is no way that things makes 1000 watts especially for 70 bucks...
